Finally - I've found 3 red tomatoes hiding in a corner of the greenhouse behind a leaf. All this time I've been nattering to the wrong tomato. We're very late this year only just starting to ripen.15

Same here, only picked half a dozen tomatoes so far! Chillies are looking good though, I reckon we could have a glut. We find they open freeze very well, before bagging, but if anyone has any tried and tested recipes for chilli jam/chutney/pickle, I could be interested.

The tomatoes are coming in now for us, though they are fighting off some disease or another. In other news, DD starting coughing in her sleep on Sat night. And then woke with a snotty nose and a high temp. So she was tested yesterday morning. Keeping fingers crossed it's just a normal cold. She did way better with the test than I thought she would, and it is nose swab only for children (no throat swab), but both nostrils rather than just one. Awaiting results still. But testing centre was busier. She is doing fine. The coughing has eased off, but she is very congested, and the temp is back within normal range. So hoping it is something else.Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,080.1 Owed = £11,549.914

Today I have made the biggest vat of chutney ever! Some of my tomatoes had blight so I pulled up the worst plants all of which had loads of green tomatoes on them. Some have ripened and others are looking like they may oblige. I had about 2 kilos of green tomatoes or those with a mark of blight on that I could cut off. I also added some french beans that I top and tailed the other night but forgot to cook. All chopped up in the food processor. Added 2 kilos of onions, both red and white, garlic, an assortment of spices , brown sugar, vinegar and one solitary courgette who's end had got a bit manky.
It is all quietly bubbling away on the stove in what my family call my cauldron. I wont bother to put it in jars tonight, I will reheat and do it tomorrow. I also made a small batch of blackberry jelly and a loaf of bread. I am trying to not waste any produce from the veg garden this year.
Is it hot enough for everyone? My teenage son even got up at stupid a.m. to ride his pony before it got hot. My poor horse hates the heat and gets quite stressed. This morning I brought him in, hosed him off and put him in a nice cool stable; one very happy and relaxed horse!
OH and eldest son are working on a contract this week, it is unbearable in the diggers in this heat. They have come home very hot, tired and sweaty and raided the fridge for cold cider and beer. We have to move cattle tonight but the way the temperature is it will have to be very late tonight, they also get stressed in high temperatures. We haven't had any of the thunderstorms yet despite really spectacular lightning electrical storms, we could really do with some rain!

Either way, DD is pretty much back to normal now, thankfully.February wins: Theatre tickets12 -
well done Elaine. Very productive. I made it through the working day without falling asleep at my desk from the heat lol. They have promised storms all day, none have been forthcoming here. It is still 30 degrees, inside and out. Only window in DDs room is roof window. If that is open it's too light to sleep. So later bedtime for her, so her room can cool down. Its over 30 in her room already, and if we closed the window it would go up a couple degrees very quickly! We really need a storm, or at least a sharp temp drop with some wind. There's no wind either.February wins: Theatre tickets12

Over 30 indoors here too. I think we’re going to sleep in the living room, as it’s a bit cooler than upstairs. I noticed my stored bottles of water had passed their best by dates by a couple of months, so have been putting them in the fridge for a nice cold drink and will order more.Original mortgage free date: November 2044Current mortgage free date: November 2038Chipping away...14
