As a shielded person (who has been told to still shield beyond the pause date by my consultant), I'm wondering just how GP practices are going to keep people safe while administering the flu vaccine to more patients than ever this year. Also, has anyone else started to see a huge price increase in paracetamol? I want to add more to my winter preps but as I can't go to the shops I'm limited to shopping online.I haven't been on here for ages, lovely to see some familiar names, but a lot that I remember are missing. Hope this is just due to the usual ebb and flow of life and not because of anything Covid related.People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

On the subject of flu vaccines, I had an email this afternoon from Lloyds pharmacy saying you can pre book with them now, for your flu vaccine. Starts 14th September. I have booked myself in, as work will reimburse.

Last Friday I had one of those postponed ‘elective’ surgeries. Not having had it done wouldn’t have killed me, but the lack of it had me significantly disabled, getting worse daily, in excruciating pain and entertaining suicidal thoughts.
Some friends and acquaintances told me in no uncertain terms that it was mortally dangerous to have a hospital procedure at this time and that I shouldn’t even consider it.
Two which I responded that my Will is up to date and l’m doing it. Two weeks total isolation prior, Covid negative tested prior, two weeks total isolation post-surgery with my family. I had to sign a additional Covid-consent form as well as the standard consent form.

Thriftygifty said:I typed out a fairly long post, then the laptop died, so I will bullet point:
1 - A**a online orders, no longer stock - own brand caster sugar, cheap gravy, 30p chocolate, fresh breaded cod, not oos they no longer sell it, will others follow?
2 - Morries no breaded Pollock, haven't had any for quite some time...is there a fish issue?
3 - Hospital in April didn't have any diamophine, hadn't had any for quite some time according to midwife. Checked medicines, lots of gaps where things have expired, also stocking up on stuff for potential chicken pox and headline with DS starting school in Sept (maybe) .
4 - one of our children managed to get something stuck in their ear, off we went to a&e (urgh!!) They couldn't remove it and referred us, discovered accidentally getting shampoo in his ear when decontaminating managed to dislodge it and I was able to safely remove it with my fingernail.
5 - what toilet roll is everyone buying that is cheap, we use to get it in HB
I've been stocking up on medicines as well as other things from Aldi, have found they have had ibuprofen and paracetamol (own brand) in stock for about 40p a box. Re toilet roll, they sell 24 packs which have recently went from £6 to £5.17 or something. Might be handy for everyone to note that this week I found 2.5kg bags of caster sugar for £2.50 and a large 907g tin of Lyle's Golden Syrup for £0.97! All in Aldi (Glasgow) not sure if prices are the same UK wide but they have been having some decent "stockpile" goods in recently, I found all of these as of yesterday 😊13 -

If you have a food processor, you can turn granulated sugar into caster sugar any time you need it. Granulated sugar always seems to be available. HTH.
