Elaine, I'm very sorry to hear of how ill you are
I hope you can turn a corner soon.
Greenbee, that sounds really important about what age range is most liable to get the long-lasting covid formI hope your convalescence is going well. Good idea about fermented foods!
As for me ... staying out of shops, building up supplies, checking what seeds to buy at realseeds, and considering a calor gas/flogas heater. I need to do a pro and con list on that one.Plus - I feel so sorry for the ordinary Beirutis - the little clips I've seen look absolutely horrendous.2023: the year I get to buy a car14 -
I typed out a fairly long post, then the laptop died, so I will bullet point:
1 - A**a online orders, no longer stock - own brand caster sugar, cheap gravy, 30p chocolate, fresh breaded cod, not oos they no longer sell it, will others follow?
2 - Morries no breaded Pollock, haven't had any for quite some time...is there a fish issue?
3 - Hospital in April didn't have any diamophine, hadn't had any for quite some time according to midwife. Checked medicines, lots of gaps where things have expired, also stocking up on stuff for potential chicken pox and headline with DS starting school in Sept (maybe) .
4 - one of our children managed to get something stuck in their ear, off we went to a&e (urgh!!) They couldn't remove it and referred us, discovered accidentally getting shampoo in his ear when decontaminating managed to dislodge it and I was able to safely remove it with my fingernail.
5 - what toilet roll is everyone buying that is cheap, we use to get it in HB

I've noticed groceries going up considerably for a while now. I buy a lot of tins of corned beef for the dogs. One of them has a very dodgy tum and corned beef is the only treat that doesn't make him ill. I can also squish his tablets in it. The other dog is treated exactly the same, so I get through quite a bit. Tins have gone up from £1.60 to £1.90 to £2.00 and the latest jump was to £2.50. It would probably be cheaper to buy beef and cook it and chop it up, but I daren't in case poorly dog gets really ill.
Dog food is from vets (expensive) and is made in France so I have been keeping sacks in stock in case I can't get it. (poorly dog's stomach dissolves when he is ill so I can't give him anything else). This is the only thing worrying me about Brexit - lack of dog food. Ridiculous I know, but we humans can make do and dodgy doggy can't,

ThriftyGifty, you can get a chicken pox vaccine now. You have to do it private, but both boots and superdrugs offer it. We had DD vaccinated this time last year. 2 injections, about a month apart. Chicken pox is mild for many, but seems to not be the case in our family (my brothers twins ended up in hospital with it as kids, and my sisters girl was miserable with it last year and had a spot in her eye!!!). Also, we were thinking ahead to the florida holiday at the time, and didn't want to have to cancel if she caught chicken pox at nursery. But either way, it brings some peace of mind. Just thought I'd point it out in case you weren't aware.February wins: Theatre tickets14

Our next move is baby food, I'm going to start stocking up on next stage formula whilst they are still 2 for £13.50 at A as they are £16 everywhere else and our delivery pass expires in October (eek!!!)

Opticians went well yesterday. As in, I was reassured by all the processes in place, and measures taken to protect them and us. Firs time being in high street since all this began. Was strange. They literally keep the shop door locked unless you have an appointment. My prescription had changed, as had DH's. He also now needs two pairs - one for middle distance, one for short distance, and a referral to eye hospital for a different issue. I have 2 issues, one manageable at home, the other to just be monitored closely for the time being. DD is slightly long sighted, but not enough for a prescription yet. Just have to watch and see how she does in school. If she starts to struggle, then we can take her back. Was an expensive visit!!

Chickenpox is horrible! Pure utter misery for the wee souls.

Yes, always do your own research. We did the same, including reviewing the NHS reasons for not rolling out the vaccine to the masses. I personally felt some of their reasoning was flawed, and decided it was likely that they decided the cost outweighed the benefit as it is considered a 'mild' illness for many. But, that is just my opinion. You, and others, may decide differently. Totally up to you.February wins: Theatre tickets13

Also, Tesco's had 18 roll packs of Andrex for £4 on Saturday, cheaper than their own brand packs.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

greenbee said:This is what I had too - with antibiotics in case of secondary infection due to continued spiking temperature after a month. I had the doxycycline/amoxicillin combo which was horrible. I then stopped taking my temperature as soon as I had two days of normal readings and have avoided doing so since. Picked up around week 6 with just odd bouts of fatigue, then crashed majorly at 18 weeks. Apparently the 35-50 year old age group are the ones who are predominantly getting it this way. Mild/manageable initial symptoms but ongoing issues with symptoms that are difficult to explain - bloods are fine, lungs are fine, ECG is fine despite chest pains and weird HR issues. We’re being warned not to exercise, to rest and to eat a varied diet - in my case I’ve been specifically told to go back to low carb. My only identified issue is low calcium which I am addressing through diet. I’m also continuing vit D and Vit C supplementation in medical advice but knocking off the iron.I’d thoroughly recommend taking the resting advice seriously. I think my crash (and that of others from what I’m hearing through the support groups) is down to deciding I was better and not resting enough. As someone said, people used to convalesce after things like TB, glandular fever or even flu. PM me if you have any questions.
Oh - and up the fermented foods to help with the antibiotic recovery too!
