A memorial tree is a wonderful thing DfV. I hope it gives you lots of comfort.
My husband's mum died when he was just 20yrs old and his family were gifted a camilla by a family friend. As non of his immediate family are green fingered we ended up with it. It has endured 7 house moves and over 20yrs of unintentional neglect but it is still going strong.
As his mum missed out on meeting any grandchildren we have pictures of our children standing with the camilla at key milestones such as first day of school etc. Might sound crazy to some folk but it has helped.
We are now in our forever home so it will finally get a place in the ground when I am brave enough to plant it. (Might take a cutting first though).18 -

I think cuttings are an excellent idea, not least as Each Child can have one. Especially if you've managed to create one that copes with unintentional neglect! (I'm pretty sure the myrtle in Royal wedding bouquets comes from an offspring of the one that Victoria had, but I refuse to believe it's the same bush!)15 -
LOL no they don't gravitate to just any camilla thankfully as that would start to get a bit weird. (Or should I say even more weird!?!)17

Wobbles all around I think. It's such a change, such a worry, and such a long time for all this to be going on. Whilst restrictions are easing, it is far from over and we are rightly concerned about a second wave. I just want the coronavirus to do one, and for us all to be able to get back to normal.
Found out a colleague lost a son-in-law to it near the start of lockdown, so her daughter and grandchildren moved in with her. He was young, with underlying health conditions, but still.
And today my firm announced that they are having to make 5 redundancies. In a firm of circa 300, that's not too bad, but obviously devastating for those individuals. I have escaped such fate for the time being. Hopefully I will continue to manage to do so, and we can bring in more business in future to avoid any further redundancies.February wins: Theatre tickets15 -
Report in tonight of a new swine flu virus being found in China that the WHO has designated as potential for another pandemic. They are watching the situation carefully. Article is in the Independent online.15

Baggins11, I do the same but with a small Bible given to me on my wedding day by my Granny and Grandpa. (44 years ago). It goes to weddings, funerals, birthdays and the like. Fits in my handbag so no one's any the wiser unless I tell them.

I'm sorry I put a slight damper on things lastnight/today however its also nice not to feel alone and like i'm going crazy, thanks everyone for the support, I think I was just having an off moment. DH had an email from work today, they are planning on a phased return with part time hours and he will be called when required, the email was sent to all branches in the country, it's a slight improvement however I won't be counting our chickens until we get to next spring. I've started on the winter prepping, I had a VIP slot for Next and bought DH 3 thermal tops £3 each and 2 pairs of long johns £4 each, it's not something he normally wears however i've told him he needs to stay warm, especially this winter, and some thermal socks for myself £2.50 for 2 pairs, oh and some jazzy Christmas boxer shorts for £2 for DH Christmas stocking that our boys will find funny when their Daddy opens them. I need a waterproof coat and some boots i'm just not sure where to buy the boots from, I would like some really good waterproof but comfortable every day ones that will last and that go with everything, any suggestions? I rechecked the veggie plot today, the kale and cherries are ready to be picked. I'm not sure if it is butterfly eggs its on the surface of the leaves but seems to be in the leaves it looks like tiny scorch dot marks, I asked on another page and they said it was eggs but i've googled butterfly eggs and it doesn't look like it and you can't rub them off as they are in the leaf rather than on it. Also discovered that the badgers have been up the plum tree and eaten them and left evidence on the playhouse roof which is under the tree, I never knew badgers could climb, they are coming from my parents side of the fence as they scaled it the other night and dropped down onto our outside steps, still at least they are giving me something light hearted to think about. The app with dates for food sounds good, i'm going to look into that one thanks

Can you get yourself a wildlife camera so at least you can see and record the badger antics?16
