OK, so assuming that we're not in the US of A and therefore prepping for some sort of amalgam of Armageddon, the zombie apolcalypse, the Chinese invasion and five more years of Trump, I'm puzzled by one thing. What manner of event might precipitate the bugging-out for which you're prepared/preparing?We're all doomed12

I am very behind on the thread! Just starting on page 377 now. Apologies. As promised by boss, I am now very busily working from home!
We are still staying in our little bubble. Regarding DD returning to nursery, two things have to happen before we will allow it. 1) the numbers need to decline significantly more (though I expect they will rise) and 2) the nursery not to have rules set out that expect my very sociable daughter to sit by herself and not interact closely with other children. It's not that I want to, I just know she won't abide by those rules when there are other children close by and will get very upset at being repeatedly corrected about it. She will not understand, and will think she has done something wrong. So, as we have the option, we wi keep her home. It is either completely safe for her to return, or it isn't at all. We are in no rush.
Mothernerd, I hope you are ok. Hugs!
Have kept garden protected from frost. Hurrah! And everything growing well.
One of my colleagues was coughing and sniffing on video call yesterday. He is not working today due to being illhe has only been out to shops, and has still gotten ill. All team members looking frazzled after 6 weeks of trying to cover their own and others work.
Love and hugs xxFebruary wins: Theatre tickets13 -
Civil unrest or rioting where like in London a few years ago fires were set and people had to literally run for their lives and then were left homeless. My worse nightmare scenario would be a pandemic that came suddenly with no prior indication and most of the population died in a very short time, the sheer number of dead would mean being unable to stay at home unless you are lucky enough to live in relative isolation in the country so you'd need a safe place out of the urban/town/village where you live that had a water supply close enough to use be it a stream/pond/lake and you'd probably need to know how to make a temporary shelter to stay warm and dry in until you could see what was happening in the wider world. Not a very likely scenario but then neither was covid was it?11

One merit of living on a stiff hill is most civil unrest literally goes downhill. (Slugging up a hill is a bad attack position).
Absolutely with Mrs LW that tool one for all prepping is knowledge. "Bullets beans & bandages" (the three classic US prepper staples, largely of fiction as you never hear of some rufty tufty outlaw demanding triple-ply) are useless unless you know what you're doing with them. Says she who really needs to go & bond with a few sacks of chickpeas & lentils that are currently space hoggers until I learn to convert them into something the chaps will eat.10 -
MingVase you’re fine where you are on top of your hill11

Not a very likely scenario but then neither was covid was it?I don't know if Covid-19 was a very likely scenario, but I do know that TPTB had allegedly been planning for a pandemic since at least 2009. Admittedly this one's revealed huge deficiencies in their planning, but perhaps that was only to be expected. It's been a long time since I was in the forces, but I haven't forgotten what I learned on survival exercises 50 years ago. I'm also relatively fit for my age - BMI 23.9, total cholesterol 4.8 (without statins) and just now got back from a 4.6 mile walk across hilly country in exactly 90 minutes. My wife's also fit (and younger than me!), so physically we're well able to cope with bugging-out.However, there's a limit to what we feel the need to prepare for beyond disruption to supplies or utilities. We've "war-gamed" all sorts of worst-case scenarios over the last ten years, and have never been able realistically to envisage a situation in which we'd need to do anything more drastic than leave home PDQ with our BOB and either wing it or go with the flow. But hey, that's just us. We simply CBA to devote the necessary mental energy to plan beyond that pointWe're all doomed13

A few miles from me is a higher hilltop, complete with an Iron Age fort on top. They sat up there and watched the Romans marching in. They were preppers too weren't they..plus ca change etc lol12

Has anyone seen the reports linking vitamin d deficiency with the recovery from Covid 19? There appears to be a connection with how well, or not, that you recover if you catch it, and it would make sense in the numbers from care homes and 'black/ethnic' deaths.(sorry if that's not the correct term, no offence intended) I know anyone can catch it, but the doctors who wrote the reports are saying it's worth looking at.2025 Fashion on the ration
