I see the tin foil hat brigade are out again.Mrs LW i have actually done the next part of my prep plan - i’ve bought some more cupboards to store extra food in! I had inherited a butchers trolly and a desk which are both pretty useless, in the same space they take up i can fit 3 tall floor standing cupboards which will hold plenty of tins, dried good etc. I will keep adding to my stores and i have lots of lovely tomatoes coming up and lots of other goodies.
DH started back at work today. It was very quiet but that suited him as he managed to catch up on his paperwork. My dentist rang me today, shes not working but just ringing clients around to say hi which i think is sweet. My neighbour had a stroke at the start of lockdown and had some seizures last week. His wife asked me to nip and pick up a prescription for him which i gladly did, they are good neighbours. Everywhere was very quiet, i expect thats down to the colder weather!13 -

That's the way to do it Dandy-candy I now have cupboard envy! I too will be adding all I can make and grow (that we don't eat fresh) to my stores in preserves, pickles, dehydrated and frozen form. I am stocking up on tinned meat, fruit and veg, leaf tea, dried fruit, herbs, spices, jars of jam, honey, pickles, table sauces, sugar, salt, vinegar and household things and bathroom stuff too. I add a bit to every delivery we order from the supermarket and hope that it arrives. We'll be prepared at least materially for an uncertain and unpredictable future. Roll on that vaccine I say xxx.11

I managed to get compost, 5 tomato plants and 2 courgettes at the feed store place so am v happy, can now sow more seeds.
We had very old seeds as we haven't really grown much since we moved here 5 years ago so we were very liberal when we sowed carrots, lettuce, chard, spinach, kale and broad beans in huge tubs we picked up before lockdown. The spinach and kale failed but everything else is doing well.11 -
Anyone seen Matt Lucas' hillarious impression of Bojo?

Meanwhile - back at the ranch - and some people are optimistically saying/hoping that the "milk of human kindness will start flowing" and hoping people will be nicer/kinder at the end of all this. I wish they were right = but available evidence to date does make this a more than a little optimistic view of things I'm afraid. Can't see it happening myself - and am hoping to be proved wrong on that one...but evidence to date indicates otherwise by the look of it.7

But I think the chances of a vaccine are slim and the chances of many people having one (if it is invented) are even slimmer. I've seen the "technical" info. on what such a vaccine might/probably would look like. Literally - as in a human-made design that would show up on the screen of a smartphone and indicate vaccination status - or otherwise.
A very very dangerous development imo - as many of us would never scan up on said smartphone with the appropriate screen picture of obviously human-made markings just underneath our skin. The worrying thing about not having "the Mark" being that there's a good chance we would be Locked Out of many things in society (ie not allowed access to this, not allowed access to that and basically frozen out of many aspects of Our Lives). This would be a huge problem - even for those of us that couldn't be prevented from getting our income (as it's pension or some other such non-human-contact type way) and couldn't be prevented from having a home to live in (as we own our own - and don't have to rent one).
So - it would be absolutely essential if a vaccine ever does emerge (which I doubt) for it to be capable of being administered in a way that would NOT have visible evidence to show either way - so that no-one could be checked with a smartphone or the like and then Locked Out of society for not having it.
From this - it's very clear that indeed it would be much the best thing if a vaccine does NOT ever get invented - IF there was going to be any sort of "marker" or documentation or any other 'proof' provided as to who had had the vaccine - and who hadn't. So it would be better for Society as a whole never to have such a vaccine - if a vaccine being available meant a huge swathe of the population being "sent to Coventry/Locked Out of much of their lives" because they'd chosen not to have it.
Onto prepping/pioneer matters, I do enjoy growing veg. (not much luck with fruit as yet), cooking, sewing etc. but am aware that I enjoy it because it is a choice. I'm not sure it would be so enjoyable otherwise but if it came to it I guess I would be likely to just get on with things as best I could. My younger daughter is fairly self-sufficient so she would probably just knuckle down and do what is necessary too. I do worry about the elder as she has mental and physical problems but she and her partner (also disabled) have both coped remarkably well. I am keeping much of my tinned stocks in abeyance towards autumn/winter as I have so far been able to get fresh/frozen food locally. I did run out of some curry spices so will look at how to best keep those in, but so far I am fairly happy with my stores. I have always kept a store cupboard since I was first married in the 70's so it is second nature to me to do this and regularly review things. Now living on my own I probably don't need to do so much but the habit seems ingrained now, and sometimes it has helped the kids out in an emergency.17 -
Dreaming, I'm on my own with a store cupboard too and while my kids live away from me by miles, I have been able to make a couple of food bank donations mainly from stores with a few extra purchases such as nappies, loo roll & pasta.
Up til November 2018 I had an allotment which kept me & the ex well fed & stocked and I am missing the 2 tall freezers that we had, I only have space for a F/F now with a very small garden. I still have a well stocked store, as taught by my late mum, and am capable of & able to bake bread, gut fish, clean & pluck game and preserve, pickle & infuse for my & others benefit.
I'm a vaxxer, as was my mum. Having seen one of my brothers very ill with measles back in the 60s, she pushed for me & my other brothers to get the new measles vaccine. I don't think one will be available within 12 months, and I am certain that there will be st least one spike before the end of 2020.
I work in a children's hospital which during this pandemic has had adult patients for the first time ever and the surgical & medical professionals are not expecting an easy ride through the summer and into the winter pressure period.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
