I'm over 60, still work full time as a nurse and am appalled at the actions of people. I live in an area which has been incredibly lucky during all of this. Even in a large city we have few cases and even fewer deaths. The deaths that have occurred in my province have been mainly in the frail, institutionalized elderly. I'm not saying that this fact is OK, it's the reality. The virus acts in ways we'll never understand, killing a youth and sparing someone who is over 100 years old.
I've been shouted at in a supermarket for shopping in the seniors hour. I'm permitted to, I'm over 60. If I wanted to get really technical, I was double entitled to be there because it's also the time they reserve access for healthcare workers and seniors on a daily basis. It's Saturday at 0745 and I'm allowed to be there but no, a little old lady decides in her eyes I'm not old enough and should get out. Bet she's fun to deal with on a regular basis.
Our plans basically involve keeping a well stocked pantry and some meat in the freezer. Our beef industry took a hit and two plants were closed down due to the virus. Our oldest son is in the military and our youngest works in a hospital. They are both keeping their household stocks up.
Who I do feel sorry for are the oil and gas workers. With the prices so low, there are huge numbers of unemployed people who were used to very high wages and have lived on the financial edge for years. Big houses, two winter holidays every year, car, truck, snow sledges, boats and huge caravans.
Our quarantine sort of ends later this week. It's going to be interesting, the government has promised I will have a job until May 31st and then in a cost cutting effort will start layoffs.

In my experience people are generally treated the way they treat others so if life is lacking kindness and friendliness we need to look at ourselves and our own attitudes before deciding the rest of the population is really not worth knowing.23

Well Bojos announcement last night for various reasons sent me into frantic panic mode, which resulted in spending the day whole day deep cleaning the kitchen and making space under the stairs, tomorrow we plan on finally assembling the greenhouse although my seedlings are not doing well in the porch it may be to late to save them. My cherry trees however have loads of 🍒 and my lemon tree has 6 lemons hopefully they carry on growing and not drop off which happens, I don't think I'm very good at this growing thing! I plan on emptying everything out of the larder towards the end of the week it contains more "stuff" than food at the moment, i've repurposed a spare cube unit and put it in the bottom of the larder to store tins, also my kmix can live on top of it, which will be safer than where it previously was. I'm thinking of investing in the mincer attachment for it, does anyone have a kmix with attachments? I'm also thinking of investing in those wipe clean pockets for childrens work but using them for a pantry/freezer/cleaning etc list and can easily adjust numbers each time we use something to keep stock of things or is this overkill? I'm trying to get as organised as I can, I still need to sort recipes/meal plan which i'm daunted by, I'm also not very good at this cooking thing! Although we dont do ready meals, everything is cooked from scratch just very basic.

From reading this thread, it's really given me a new outlook on many posters.

I think this pandemic will exacerbate peoples insecurities wether that is based on mental, economic, illness/physical problems etc, although people will quite rightly prioritise family and friends well being, I'd like to think people will empathise with others who are in varying degrees of dificulty. My first day back in work today, wore my face mask on way home to shop in aldi which is usually quieter post 7pm , not today, but got what i needed and added to my stores,,, gave myself quarantine haircut not too bad....buying quite a few books on my kindle when i prefer old fashioned hardbacks....you all take care21

LOL at the comment "better read than dead" - like the turn of phrase and, if that's how some people wish to play this on an individual basis, then that's obviously their right.
Personally - I can see all the targeted adverts coming up on my computer that mean "Someone somewhere is 'reading' what I'm looking at" so to say. But my mobile phone is deliberately old style very basic indeed and carried round switched off (as someone put it - "You are just carrying your own portable phone booth with you in case you need it"). I've doubled up on being sure my phone couldnt track me by putting it inside a silver foil ziplock bag and a small "Faraday cage" type bag. Debit cards are an issue admitted. My computer has two search engines there - the other one being DuckDuckGo. My Facebook page just exists in order to be able to join any Facebook groups I want to - but no personal info. up there. I wouldnt dream of having an Alexa type gadget - even before all the info. came out about its snags. So life is lived as "privately" as possible and doing the best I can manage.
So probably pretty "private" compared to a lot - if nothing like as private as my mother (who works on the basis of "not telling anyone anything ever" and that even gets applied to her own family if she can manage it).5 -
The post wasn't in response to yours Wondercollie, you've been on these threads long enough now for us to know you for a sound and good hard working woman with her feet on the ground and her head in the 'real world'. I wouldn't speak out about you for any reason but there isn't one. I'm sorry you were subject to the behaviour from the older woman in the shop, I'm sorry you thought I posted about you.17

1. the “little old lady” didn’t think you looked your age, I don’t suppose you were wearing a badge stating your age, you could take it as a compliment (even if unintended).
2. she was terrified of catching the virus from you, especially if you were identifiable as a health worker, and being vulnerable herself (as obviously much older than you) was in mortal fear of infection, and deserving of your compassion.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

Thriftgifty, basic is good, if you don't have basic cooking how are you going to do fancy stuff. It's a life skill, one you can pass on to your children.£71.93/ £180.0012
