The Prepping Thread - A Newer Beginning ;)

I think as a prepper I look at whatever the situation is and imagine the worse it can possibly be before it ends and prep for slightly more and longer than my worse imaginings. I think this isn't going to be fully over until a vaccine has been developed, tested to all governments requirements, made in quantity enough for everyone alive who needs it and that vaccine administered to anyone who needs it to be safe. It's going to be long hard slog and in all the time it takes for this to become fact we will still need to be socially distancing if we have the need because of age and health issues even when the lockdown is lifted we won't be able to lessen our safety measures so the preps I've made ahead of time and the supplementing I can do now are going to have to be stretched to their limit for us to get through it. It's going to be really trying and many people won't stick to it and we will have cases of covid-19 again in numbers if people do play 'life as normal' that will set us back months. So, prep, prep, prep with all your might and grow those gardens and make do and mend all and everything you possibly can. There is no trial run at this, only one chance to get it right!15

Does anyone watch the Different Russia channel?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw2chDnAOfU&t=5s I enjoy it very much. Last week Valeria was shopping for a breadmaker. However, some comments from Canada mention even they don't have any bread flour. I don't think we're going to see any here for quite some time.

Our £25 fruit and veg box arrived this morning. I ordered it on Sunday evening, and usually it's next day delivery, but not on bank hols so it came today. So much food that I've shared with both DD's. We'll see how long it lasts us and will probably get another one. It means that I can cut down on the asda order, and I know the f&v are that much fresher.2025 Fashion on the ration

Tink_04, one of the best bean supports I've seen was an old bicycle wheel mounted on a random pole, with strings tied on that reached down to the bean plants; they were scrambling up the strings perfectly happily. My aged uncle has adapted that idea & grown his beans up strings onto the washing line that's strung across their tiny back yard - you can't keep a born gardener down! - and the ripe beans just dangle down from that; wonderfully easy for an 89 y.o. to pick. So provided you have something you can tie string to - a wall, a branch, the end of a washing line, something of that sort - you'll manage. One word of caution though; think about the wind. In effect, any kind of bean-growing arrangement is pretty much like a large sail in high winds. So choose a sheltered spot if you can!Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)15

Just a thought - we are currently replacing the long aging hose pipe and buying new blades for garden machinery (shredder, hedge cutter etc.) in case we either can't get them later or can't afford them because OH's job goes bang. Instead of encouraging him to make do, I'm now insisting on prepping that sort of thing to enable us to keep going. Poor boy is wandering round his shed and garden wondering what he might need later. Worth a check of your tools while replacements are available.
