Happy Boult again, other half has been cutting up the trees we took down back in January, next door shouted over and asked if they could have the wood, and by the way do you want any compost? Yes and yes please, the wood was going to the tip when it opened again, turns out they have a multi fuel.
They also said I can have the cooking apples off their tree as the lady does not bake, I've offered to do crumbles as a thank you.
Like DFV I'm getting sugar in ready for jam making, we're also lucky to have a pear, plum and eating apple in the garden, The dehydrator will be getting some use later on in the year.

Also grateful for our Girls here; we're getting 3 large eggs & 3 bantam eggs a day, which is plenty! DD1's been doing the odd mercy-dash to leave half-a-dozen on various of her friends' doorsteps; they've not been able to find any when they've gone to the supermarket, and for some of them that's almost the only protein they're getting. (It's no good advising 20-somethings to go to the little local shops, or the market, where there haven't been any shortages at all; it's just not the way they do things. Sadly.)Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)11

I don’t keep chickens, but son found a bakers tray of 30 Eggs (In the supermarket - crazy!) & suddenly, we’re rich! I feel guilty for getting lucky, for bidding the lad seize the opportunity before planning where & how to distribute. As I’m light on boxes. How best to distribute?9

DfV, when I've been out of boxes before & needed to carry eggs, I've used either random smaller boxes, or origami'd boxes, and placed the eggs in coils of odd socks! To be fair any kind of long thin fabric strips would work, if you're more organised than I was & don't have 1,000 orphaned sports, football & rugby socks to dispose of...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)8

Daz I read the other day that a volcanic area in Iceland that last erupted 800 years ago has been having minor shocks since Jan and is getting worse. They're saying it will cause global problems.

I need to plant more food and get some more tins in at this rate.
As the saying goes, may you live in interesting times, I miss boring times, at least then I could go and massage people, I miss doing my job

Despite it being Easter, if you were to open your door & see a sock bulging strangely up at you, would you think 'eggs'? I think carefully folded newspaper is probably simpler & safer & more obvious. Maybe one of these I may even use these for seedlings...9

Perfect boxes, DfV! And I didn't put the eggs inside the socks, but on them; coiled into a sort of S-shape they made reasonable "nests" but of course newspaper would do!
I still have a big box of odd socks, but they tend to be much prettier & more colourful now the boys have left home...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)9
