All winter even before this madness we have walked our dogs on deserted North Norfolk beaches, now we hear there are queues of traffic getting to the coast. We are now walking close to home along the banks of rivers and just seeing the odd local.Slightly bitter14

Very difficult Mother’s Day as I am estranged from mater and s/father. I don’t know if you’ve seen C4’s End of the F****** World (on Netflix) but it’s brilliant, my situation was a lot like Alyssa’s, with disability, massive financial abuse and an area so isolated it featured in several World in Action documentaries for good measure. The cult of the country house has a lot to answer for I feel.
So when the inevitable email arrived, distressed at the supermarket plundering by local Waitrose-ites, I felt extremely conflicted. Naturally upset at the thought of someone in distress, but also vivid memories of being left to starve through swine flu, and being dumped penniless in a refuge the day before they swanned off to their bloody yacht in their bloody ferrari :’-(
But I couldn’t refuse a cry for help, so sent link for approved foods (plenty still in stock then), hoping they’d use it but knowing they probably wouldn’t. Then I ordered what little I could find on the net - a case of Nakd ginger bars (decent nutritional balance), a kilo of popcorn kernels (to plug the Mini Cheddars gap) and a load of seeds, including sprouting varieties for quick extra nutrition, and early F1 courgettes and perpetual spinach.
I’ve no idea whether they’ll use these things, suspect my appalling step father will neck the protein bars quicksmart, and despite having a fat acre and large conservatory they’ve always flatly refused growing anything to eat.
I am horribly conflicted by it all, I wonder should I have just ordered an approved foods for them, but my head was spinning too fast to think clearly. I hope I’ve done my best to be a decent human being?

I hope I’ve done my best to be a decent human being?Yes is the short answer. Not got long and I'm sure other people will be along shortly to add more to that. But I wanted to post something because I noticed the time on your post. I know what it's like to be plagued at 3am so decided (as first on the board) to say I think you've done more than enough to get them started.'Knowing' the people on this board, I'm others will add to that. Have to get off to my (socially distanced!) work.Take care and try not to fret...

Some still don't get it. Was chatting (at 20 ft distance) with a neighbour on the village geen when she brought a glass of whisky from her house and was surprised when I wouldn't (literally) touch it - despite knowing I am immunocompromised with a lung condition. Then having told me there was a hospitalised case from 2 miles away plus several with symptoms, she said she thought it would all blow over in a month or so. Sigh....

This is where civilisation can be separated from humanity. Yes of course you've done the right thing. Take it a step further and advise them to register for online shopping at Sainsburys. The elderly & vulnerable scheme should be announced/launched today. and they'll need to be registered before they can identity as eligible for priority delivery slots.
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?12 -
