Hurrah! Finally found the quote I was looking for from Daniel Defoe's "A Journal Of The Plague Year", which I guess goes to show how little things have changed since 1665/6 when it comes to prepping ...... nothing was more fatal to the inhabitants of this city than the supine negligence of the people themselves, who, during the long notice or warning they had of the visitation, made no provision for it by laying in a store of provisions or of other necessities, by which they might have lived retired and within their own houses as I have observed others did and who were in a great measure preserved by that caution. We're all doomed16

Thanks, but I don't like Bombay mix or trail mix. We do also have a stock of cashews, walnuts, almonds etc, but we are a peanut free house due to DDs allergy.
We do have lots of popcorn kernels in though, as they are my healthy treat. And i am well used to making breakfast bars with oats, and honey, and coconut oil, with fruit etc. So I can easily make snacks, I'm just a crisp fiend. Tbh, the only way to make crisps last in this house, is to hide them from me! Lol
The space above the kitchen cupboards is filled with cereal boxes. Again, have prioritised that over snacks.February wins: Theatre tickets10 -

Hello please may I ask a question ?I've noticed that potatoes do not last very long before they go bad, so is there a way of making them last longer? I keep them in a veg bag and in the dark. Also are there any alternatives other than instant mash or tinned potatoes that I haven't thought of ? DH has a compromised immune system, with diabetes and incurable cancer, so we are getting ready to self isolate if necessary. Many thanksFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently10

It’s anathema to my OH but if you have freezer space, frozen mash, roast potatoes and jacket potatoes are all available and what I was brought up on! This leads me to the conclusion it should be fine to home freeze your own as well.nannywindow said:Hello please may I ask a question ?I've noticed that potatoes do not last very long before they go bad, so is there a way of making them last longer?
