The Prepping Thread - A Newer Beginning ;)

I've the whole thing on dvd, all three series and have watched it many times and to be honest I don't think it gives any relevant picture of what might happen during the illness phase of a pandemic, focuses instead on what happens afterwards and is quite 'cosy' given the subject matter. In the series people die conveniently in their homes in the main and other than one tiny section in the first episode there is no hospital/medical content and there are just empty streets and a Sunday morning countryside with no traffic. It's a good watch but I think it is fiction and not indicative of what might happen for real.10

It was made on a very low budget. IRL, if there were mass deaths beyond the ability of the state or the individuals to cope, there would be bodies where they fell, swarms of blowflies, carrion birds and beasts feeding, rats proliferating like crazy, the stench of decay, mass graves where possible, the water supplies contaminated with disease-causing organisms, all sorts of vileness. I hope never to see such a thing, and that no one else has to, either.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

We can only do what our psyche deems fit to make preps to keep ourselves as safe as is possible, the rest is up to fate.8

This is a better thread.
My prepping isn’t just motivated by the thought of catching flu, I’m preparing for a drop in income at some point.I’m starting from scratch really.
I sorted my food cupboards and any tins dated next year or later I’ve put on the top shelf. Everything that needs to be used up is kind of ordered for me and I intend to use it all up (and some stuff in the freezer) in the next few weeks.
I had a big Iceland shop delivered which included 8 L of milk, 5 L of oil, 12 L of long life milk, 2kg Sugar, tin of coffee mate, 2kg porridge, 2kg pasta, 2kg flour, 2kg salt and cleaning products.
If most of the month is to be spent at home I will save my money, shop around online and buy in bulk where possible - seeds and beans for sprouting , loose tea, bicarb, white vinegar, malt etc etc. If necessary, I could use my emergency credit card. When I’ve finished inventorying the kitchen, I better think about making sure I have enough medicine. I’ve been eking it out and not ordering on repeat but I think a couple of months for back up is reasonable.10 -

Yes I wasn't meaning it as a documentary - but I do enjoy watching it all the same!8

I would have thought people would buy what wasn't on the list if they could afford to because if the essentials only stock is going to be available throughout then why will people panic buy it now?9
