With the number of people now having stoves it might be a good present to give out.
We were so pleased that our daughter has her monitor, as it could have been such a lot worse.
That's interesting advice, @DigForVictory
It's pretty obvious for preppers like us, but I'm sure some people wouldn't have a clue what to do! We're 'B'.2025 Fashion on the ration

It was quite a few years ago now, it did make national news at the time, I'm glad your daughter is OK.

What with the freeze then the melt, my corner of Lancashire is currently struggling for water. As in it's varying between none & a trickle. So, son whisked his camping waterbottles off to a mate & ensured we had a few litres for the essentials like tea & handwashing. When it briefly came back on again (their texts said so), I lugged the 2 10L jerrycans to the sink & filled them, watching the trickle dubiously.
Can I suggest you have a even a single 2L bottle handy for the kettle? It need not be Evian etc but Something to make tea/coffee/hot Vimto with (that has not been in your hot water bottle first) may be welcome.
Things like washing self, clothes etc have naturally slipped down the chaps' list of priorities but Youngest is clear, he'll move towards single pan cooking to minimise the washing up. Which is a blessing, as that is not something I can do outside the home easily. You get Looks if you take a frying pan into the showers at the pool.7 -
Oh dear, @DigForVictory I hope it gets fixed quickly.
I'm glad you managed to get some water to see you through for now. Is the water company supplying bottled water? Check their website to see what they should be doing...
I have some big bottles of the cheap non fizzy water stashed in the garage, just in case. You just never know when something might happen, do you? I also discovered Huggies make wet wipes with just water, no perfume or anything, so I have a couple of packs for such a time as this. Take care.2025 Fashion on the ration

Pay as you go Sims have to be topped up every 3 months or it gets recycled and the credit will be gone, so it's no use having one as backup in the house/car

I didn’t think they had to be topped up if it is pure PAYG you just have to use the SIM eg by making a quick call to a family member. Though you still have to remember to do it. Maybe it depends on the mobile providerIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!3

When mum was newly widowed, us daughters worried she would struggle in a power cut & promptly equipped her with LED lanterns that charge, crank & have solar panels. Today my lantern arrived & already the lads have checked it’s capabilities & been pleased to approve. It’s not a vast powerbank but apparently it’s an easy 16+ hour light, which is largely what I want it for.13

I got the "solar camping lantern" in a nice cheerful green but the black & yellow (a sort of dun gold) are as effective. We've found once charged from the mains, they stay charged just by being left with the solar panel pointing at a window.
Mind, I haven't told the lads they are small power banks & could be used to top up phones....6 -
