Play time in the garden this morning!!! 😁
I'm like a kid in a sweet shop! 😁
I had a bit of a struggle to get the fire started because it's very windy again today, but once it was going, it worked great. I just found twigs in the garden and snapped dead bits off the bottom of the fir tree. I boiled twice, used the first batch to warm the hose pipe to wrap it to put away for the winter, and had more than enough to fill my big flask. Best bit of kit I've had in a long time!2025 Fashion on the ration

I collected my hot water bottles. Also bought hand warmers and food flasks. Already have two x 1ltr flasks,
Just have to decide on which size of Kelly kettle.
Has anyone bought the hobo stove, thought it might be good for warming soup etc if the power outages are for any length of time?If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.6 -
@silver-oldie
My Kelly kettle pack has the hobo stove in it, but to be honest I'm going to use my camping stove for heating soup etc and hot drinks. The k k is a last resort, for if I run out of gas and can't buy/find any.2025 Fashion on the ration

I own the ultimate base camp (1.6ltr) Kelly Kettle kit.
My understanding is that volcano kettles like the Kelly are the most efficient option for boiling water, but that there are better alternative camping stoves for cooking on. I only bought the kit rather than the kettle alone because I didn't already have another camping stove. So if you already own a decent camping stove I would just buy the kettle.
I took the view that a bigger kettle producing more hot water was better than having to refill and boil the kettle repeatedly. In winter, I would think that more hot water the better for drinks, hot water bottles, food. The smaller kettles are more important if you actually are carrying the kettle around as when you are camping. If your main use will be at home then size and weight will be less of an issue.
Also you might factor in how many people you might need to provide water for i. e. will the unprepared neighbours need some water too?7 -
My father used to keep a small camping stove [ newer ones are so much better] for cooking extra veg out the back for a sunday dinner...The bottle slot at the side and the flat top really work instead of trying to balance a pot on a tripod...these onesNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi8

I don't have a camping stove so thought a k k with this

should be useful.
What's your thoughts on water?
I have some bottled water but not sure how long it would last.
Is a water purifier going a bit OTT ?
My problem is I can't just pop out and buy / get anything we need.

Considering sterilisation tablets or a life straw instead. It is a lot cheaper than a full purification system IIRC.
Now, I must take my tin foil hat off as it's required for an impromptu tagine construction...Mortgage free by 33 - (21/07/22 - 32 years and a bit...)
Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)7 -
Well, Covid hit our household for the first time last weekend. DD first, then myself. DD bounced back very quickly, but I got knocked for six. So just a reminder to keep plenty of painkillers on hand. Did nothing for the headache, sadly, but it did keep the fever under control.
Hope everyone is keeping well.February wins: Theatre tickets9 -

Oh dear, @euronorris, not good - hope you are on the mend now. It hasn't gone away...
