Have you wassailed your fruit trees? (Allotment rules permitting.) I am testing the minimalist version, No toast or cider, but croaking "here we come a-wassailing" just so the trees have any idea why I there, "bloom well, fruit well" (reasonable instructions, I think) & all I could remember until I was 30 yards away and at the bottom of a slithery sloping garden) "hats full, caps full, great big sacks full".. I look forward to seeing how this translates into any kind of crop...
If you want to be more thorough about it, there is always tomorrow depending on Quite when you count Twelfth Night and according to Wikipedia the orchard wassail runs thus
Here's to thee, old apple tree,
That blooms well, bears well.
Hats full, caps full,
Three bushel bags full,
An' all under one tree.
Hurrah! Hurrah!.
After all, how do your fruit trees know what day of the year it is?7 -
And the calendar changed in about 1753 so do fruit trees follow the old or new calendar?
We are planning to go to a Hooden horse event on Saturday and there will be wassail.5 -
Not so much wassailing , more chainsawing & chopping . A pear tree to take down tomorrow that will be cut /split & stacked for 2024 firewood.5

Just been watching a local pub burn - it went from smoky to roof broken through in minutes - harsh reminder that the safe place for phone, keys, wallet etc is on you. Likewise if you have a USB stick or memory card of useful data, wear it.

Must be the year for fruit trees to fall. I've got a 75 year old apple tree that fell over in December. Cut and dumped as much wood as my 5" electric saw can manage but now needs a chain saw which I can't physically handle. I will have to pay someone to cut and remove the bigger branches. Yet another expense I could do without.

We had some trees down last winter, a friend with a chain saw came and helped cut them enough to move but I was left with huge bits of trunk I couldn’t cut or split. Advertised them on our local FB group and had over 30 people offer to come get them out of our way. They were collected within an hour of advertising (they went to a local carpenter who does amazing carving and turning).7
