My son works with a charity that helps people with looking for work and he says a lot of the labouring jobs and jobs involving work on building sites want special certificates , so while a person could once upon a time go and ask on a building site for temporary work, they now must have various pieces of paper first which cost money to obtain.
I could understand that if they were working with electrics or gas but it seems very limiting if all the person will be doing is actual labouring. Its me Culpepper LOL couldn't sign in with the old ID so time for a fresh start....7 -
There is now a legal requirement to ensure anyone on a site has the skills and training for the job they are doing, or is in the process of gaining them.
There is something called the CITB test - health and safety - and the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). Although not a legal requirement, employers can assume that holders have the health and safety knowledge to work on site, so they prefer them.
And it's easier to employ someone who has the paperwork than take them as an "apprentice" who needs training up. Which doesn't make entry at basic level easy for those without the money or resources to complete the revision, or perhaps the skills to complete the on-line test.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing9 -
The lads do love a quick snack. Or an easy meal. So I buy a Lot of noodles, or used to. Is anyone else finding the cheap blocks of quick cook noodles almost impossible to find? I used to buy the yellow wrapped Maggi noodles (had 5 individually wrapped blocks) at a pound a go, grouched when they underwent shrinkflation to 4 blocks but now can't find them at all, just individual blocks at 50 pence each. Tesco had some own brand block noodles at around 30 pence & the lads mopped up the remaining 11 packets. (I have tried to teach them to leave one packet on the shelf for another hungry person, or to remind staff this needs refilling, but two brothers each cited the other as "that other hungry person".) Looks like I'll be trying to find 00 flour & making our own, but it won't be quick cook & (requiring flour & oil), won't be that easy.7

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Tried home bargains - nada, but B&M I will certainly check... I do have a trip to a Chinese supermarket pencilled in the diary where I'd hope to buy a case of 40 packs minimum. (Subject to the lads OK - if they decide these noodles "taste wrong" I'll end up ebaying them & swearing!).The Indian shop - no but I'll add that to go check before setting off to Wing Yip!.7

Maybe your boys could be told "it's these or none"? Adding soy, chilli, spices etc will change the taste too2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Do shops still sell those cheap packs of noodles which come with a small sachet of disgusting chemicals masquerading as beef or chicken flavouring? If so, buy them and throw away the sachets. One life - your life - live it!6
