One thing people could do to avoid getting paid interest of lower than 1.5% with KRBS is to keep moving money to current account paying 1,5% (depending on the spare capacity) when the money on KRBS drop below £1,000.

KRBS is in this case is just to be used as a spare container.

But to do this it will need a reliable FPI and FPO and both the sending and receiving end that could be in and out on the same day.

It was, a while back reported by a poster here (maybe TT?) that points could be earnt from buying premium bonds.
It was tried by various posters on another forum. Not one of them earnt any points so draw your own conclusions.

It worked every time for me, as it did with payments into the Direct Saver Account and purchases of Income Bonds.

I don't recall any postings saying it didn't work.

That sounds like an over-engineered solution looking for a problem!

£1,000 in a 1.5% account earns about 4p/day in interest, so desperately trying to shuffle lower amounts on a same-day basis has a pretty limited return....

Not guilty. I can understand why it shouldn't work with PBs because that is a form of gambling, which is specifically excluded in the T&Cs.

gleeful? erm.woeful, more like. i was just looking for some clarification as to whether they would indeed award the points or not. the exclusions are not exactly crystal clear when they say:
If you use your debit card to pay for bills at banks or other financial institutions.

In that case, apologies for being so prickly with you. The exclusions certainly don't appear to rule out the award of points for funding a savings account. If it doesn't work with the PO Saver, maybe that should be queried with Tesco. It certainly works with my Virgin S&S ISA. It's probably all down to the MCC used to clear the transaction,

I'd give it a try but I've abandoned all of my KRBS accounts in a rationalisation of finances and don't intend to open any new ones with them.

  • I received a confirmation email and an SMS text from KR (both timed at 2.01pm) to say that my initial deposit had been applied to my account,...which was reassuring as I can’t access the account ‘online’ until I receive my User I.D. by post,...which should be later this week.

Whilst I said earlier I thought that the Kent Reliance website functionality lagged a little behind some other financial institutions, you reminded me that they do text to confirm initial deposits are made into accounts; and send a text to confirm withdrawal requests (with a number to call if you didn't initiate the transfer). That's not something all banks / building societies do, so a point back in their favour.

I really don't think that anyone should be querying with Tesco Bank about not getting Clubcard points for paying money into a Post Office account, because the net result might be that no one gets points for paying into any account.

Tesco Bank are hardly likely to change things to allow points to be gathered in even more ways other than by actually making purchases, are they?

For the record, it also works for payments by card into Skipton BS accounts, but not Yorkshire BS accounts.

And no, I won't be querying that with Tesco Bank! :D

Fair points. I guess this really points to the fact that it is the MCC used to clear the payments that is driving the treatment of the transaction by Tesco's systems. Because that is set by the sender of the transaction, I would expect that the receiver (Tesco) probably wouldn't be able to do anything to block points - but no point in rocking the boat I guess.
  • Bit concerned... Made a payment yesterday (Saturday ~ 11am) from First Direct to KR. Today (Sunday 10:45) still not showing in my account. Should I be worried? Checked all details are correct

    Many thanks

Not certain but aren't KRBS one of those banks where payments in on non-working days don't show until the next working day? I seem to recall that being the case when I had accounts with them.
