Thanks Karen, with a scooter I dont think it will really matter if we are near to main areas, there was only waterview rooms left so because we got disney dining included if we brought the park tickets we splashed out on a waterview room. We have however requested ground floor. Would love a view of a lake, saw somewhere they have an otter? Think we will assess car space when we arrive.
    thanks again

I think at Port Orleans Riverside your water view choices are limited to the Sassagoula River or a swimming pool. I can't think of a lake there (unless you count the lakes that once were there but are now just tree filled areas). Definitely request the ground ("first" in US parlance) floor which will save you messing around with lifts.

I've never heard of an otter being there but it wouldn't surprise me :)

    All

As some of you may know I have been doing some Podcast work for the Disney Brit podcast and we are now launching a new Podcast which is the Eye on Orlando podcast!!

One of the topics in discussion for this weels show is I Drive, love it or hate it and I know we all have mixed views on here. Id love to hear why you love it or hate it please,

Answers on a postcard by 7pm tomorrow please

    Thanks all
    Craig

It is !!!! and overrated. It is basically a place where tourists feel they should stay if they go to Orlando.

Which at the moment is great because its where all the Chavs stay.

Keeps the likes of Kissimmee chav free though.

Nope, no tolls on that route if you avoid the 429 etc. Its a nice easy drive actually and well worth the savings of flying into tampa

    Craig

ps, just seen Simon of the Brits Guide post, he hit it on the head

I really wouldn't worry too much about tolls. I never pay (except or the turnpike) i must have driven through them 50 times. Only twice have i been busted.

Even then its only about $25 a time.

One was en route to KSC and the other was near the airport - even though i drove through it about 10 times i got one fine.

Apart from the theme parks is there anything else in Orlando that's worth a visit?
  • Crickey, Giovanni, what a question :rotfl: Yes, there is TONS worth seeing in Orlando that is not just theme parks. In fact, you could easily spend 2 weeks there, NOT visit a theme park at all and still be royally entertained. To start with, you should some of the real Florida in this area; start with Gatorland (which is a fun nature park with some great shows), then try a ride with Boggy Creek Airboats (or one of several other airboat operators), visit Florida Eco-Safaris, the Pioneer Museum, Serpentarium and a trip on Lake Toho with the Scenic Lake Tours. Go up to Seminole County (just to the north of Orlando) and you can try the new zipline ride over Central Florida Zoo (really neat), go for a lunch or dinner cruise on the Rivership Romance, visit the free Sanford Museum or just talk a stroll along the Riverwalk. To the south, Bok Tower Gardens is just beautiful, while you could also tour a real Florida citrus factory and the truly eclectic Chalet Suzanne (which sent soup to the moon!). Other great attractions or areas to visit include Fantasy of Flight (superb aviation museum), Silver Springs (more Florida nature), Mount Dora (great shopping, plus Segway and lake tours), Winter Park and Leu Gardens. And that's before you think about the Kennedy Space Center (less than an hour away), Daytona Beach, Merritt Island Nature Preserve and DeLeon Springs State Park. Of course, there is great golf, watersports, fishing and shopping just about everywhere, and then there are the dinner shows. I could go on (in fact, I might), but I need a lie-down first.........!!

Buy the universal tickets now, the $99 one at http://www.universalorlando.com/tickets.html is great value for 7 days, you can book it up to 2 days before you go so get them asap. Gate prices can be up to $25 more per ticket depending on the ticket and you can skip the ticket lines as you print off your tickets at home!
