Hi - I'm going to POFQ in August - I know it will be hot but any info on rain patterns/timing etc would be appreciated. More importantly....
I get bitten badly in the UK and bites swell so.... What are the bugs like at this time of year and do you have any recommendations re 'sensitive' anti insect stuff as I'm allergic to fragrance.
Thanks
I've stayed in POFQ in August, and it is a very beautiful resort. Disney do a lot of spraying to kill off the bugs and I don't recall getting bitten when we stayed there. I have heard that using Avon's Skin So Soft moisturiser acts as a mosquito repellant though - is that worth a try?
In August it often rains heavily for say 30 mins or so in the afternoon. It starts as soon as it stops and the heat quickly dries up the puddles. It's quite a weird feeling being still warm in the rain0 -
Only in money terms
Believe me, I think education is important, but if parents can only afford holidays in termtime, as long as attendance is otherwise good, I'm not going to criticise them. I work in a school that's in one of the 10% most deprived areas in the country and many children hardly get to go anywhere. I think holidays can broaden their horizons and be a learning experience in themselves - and that includes DisneyWorld!
But anyway, this isn't really the board to discuss the rights and wrongs of term time holidays. Lets get the focus back to Orlando!0 -
Hi,
I am off on Wednesday!!
I have booked up the ADR's, but am after some advice about planning.
Going is Myself, 19, Mum and Dad, 40s and my Sister, 2.
For people who have gone with a toddler before:
How long does it take for them to get used to the time difference?
How did you go about going to the parks? (i.e i am thinking of going to say Animal Kingdom for opening, staying till she gets ratty- probably about 1pm at latest, and then I have booked the dinners for around 6 so leaving the hotel at about 5...
How did you find eating? We are doing DDP and as i understand it, she will just eat off our plate? Our the staff good at giving an extra plate and silly stuff like that?
We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside (was Dixie Landings), anyone been there? (with/without kids!) What did they think?
Sorry for all the Q's very excited/nervous!
Oh nearly forgot- we are flying with Virgin- are they good with kids? Anyone know what kids shows they show?0 -
The little one will probably cope the best re jet lag which is usually worse on the return journey, just try to stay up as long as you can on arrival day.
One tip for entry to Animal Kingdom is go through the Rainforest Cafe/shop which is to the left hand side after security and out the other end and you'll find a turnstile there with no hold ups if you are there for opening.

Went with 15 month old to Toronto once and Dr gave us a sleeping draft - mixed with yoghart and after 2 hours of activity on plane she slept well in the little basonett things you can get to todlers - Virgin V ggod (or was it BA???) - time diff will work in your favour as early starts better and at 15 months DD blended in v quickly. Dont forget a drink to help with ears poping on lift off and touch down.
Stay at POR 2 years ago on DDP - Food court v good but make sure you understand what value you are getting - is breakfast one of your TS's or a qs - dont buy toast with a snack credit as its only 75cents ish and snacks are up to $4 - we tended to keep DDP credits for anything other than brekkie (except the character buffets which were fab).
Nice pool but if busy do try the quiet pools - no lifeguard or slides but 'quiet'! and next to laundry so relax while the washer goes!0 -

Loads of "secrets" and tips here for all the parks, look for hidden Mickeys, talking bins etc and don't forget to ask to ride up with the driver on the monorail. Print them out and read up about each park the night before.

quick question - once you pay for a day's parking at one of the Disney parks, can you transfer to another Disney park later in the day on the same parking ticket, or do you have to pay again?
Thinking of going home to lunch then coming back to a different park later in the day.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
