Does anyone have any idea of a good amount of spends to take for a 14 night stay, there are 4 of us going myself my husband my ds whose 4 and my dd whose 2 where going first two weeks in June. A friend of my husband said we'd need at least £4000 ($5600) but i'm convinced this is a bit excessive i was thinking more about £2500 ($3500) plus the kids have $500 of their own that family have saved for them.

Plus how much is ideal to budget per day on food my kids aren't big eaters.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks ;)

Wow, thats more than my entire budget at home for a year (for food). I am taking two children and was planning on about £100 a day, but hoping to spend much less than that.
Moving onto a better place...Ciao

    Costs:

    Breakfast

    Cheap

Go to Walmart and get cereals and milk $10 for 2 weeks breakfast.

    Expensive

Eat at one of the many breakfast diners for approx $5 pp, with one kid eating free.

    Lunch

    Cheap

Make sandwiches again from Walmart, or buy one large adult meal and share amongst you and 2 kids also using fruit and drinks already brought in.

    Expensive

3 meals (1 adult and 2 kids) at Disney, say Pecos Bills is about $23, prices are pretty consistent throughout.

    Dinner

    Cheap

    Order a pizza $10, eat in $5

    Expensive

Eat out at one of the many steakhouses. Costs seemed again to be pretty consistent at about $12 for adult meal and $5 for kids. + Drinks. Say a nice evening meal for 3 is about $40

    Extras

Drinks - take your own, use the water fountains (nasty) or get a big coke with refills foir next to nothing all day.

The first time i went to Disney i took $1000 and spent up and had an amazing time. The last time i went (jan) i took $3000 and spent up and had ana amazing time.
The point im trying to gtet across is that you'll manage with what you take. Its not hard if you over spend one day to have a cheap day the next day.

    Best of luck

Thank you Sturll, thats great. We've actually hired a villa, so we'll probably be cooking a few evening meals as well, and making up sandwiches for the day time.

Thanks for that Strull, we'll probably do a bit of both eat out and make our own the kids would probably prefer this anyway. I was just concerned we weren't taking enough but true i wouldn't spend that much here in two weeks so were sure to be okay.

Have you purchased your Park Tickets?

There are some ways of getting cheap tickets but you have to be prepared to spend 3 or 4 hours taking a 'Holiday Vacation Ownership' type tour - also known as timeshare. You can make genuine savings of up to $100 - just don't get drawn into to sales pitch - if you are easily pursuaded don't do it. If you know there is no way you would say 'yes' then visit one of the many 'visitor information' booths spotted around and negotiate your savings - one thing to note though, Disney offer no discount to these people but anything else is covered. You can also find another of these booths set up in the 'Florida Mall' - I have previously used 3 different companies in the past and saved around $300. the longest I stayed was 3.5hrs - there is no 'con' involved - just remember to say no, no, no on the tour.

Some folks may say 'why spend your holiday time on some sort of high pressure sales talk' well I personally enjoy taking a break from the parks etc - you usually get breakfast thrown in and you get to see how the other half live while on holiday.

    good luck!

We tried to buy phone cards at Disney last year and were told they don't sell them, we bought one at Seaworld for $5, can't remember how many minutes we got but it lasted long enough for at least 3 or 4 calls home.

    Here is what I do

Go to https://www.paytone.com and get a Bizon card. You can get one for as little as 10 dollars and do not worry you donwload it and the pin number etc. Calls on this card to the UK are like 2.5c a min and you can uise it from ANY pay phone and even your hotel room.

We booked through auto-europe and collected the car from the Hertz desk.
That was the best offer when we went. Not sure it is now though.

Can you tell me a bit more abou the I Ride?
I've read that you can get unlimited rides for $16 each (there's 4 of us plus we would get my ds on for free) but I've now been told that they're not worth buying as you can't go far and its better to taxi
    Any thoughts please.....

If you are staying on International Drive, and are only going to the Universal Parks, then the i-Ride is fantastic IMO.

When i went in August, i stayed in a cheap hotel (Wynfield Inn) which was great for my budget (i was travelling thru America). But it was just slightly off I-Drive, basically it was opposite SeaWorld.

There was an I-Ride stop right outside the hotel, so you bought a ticket in the hotel lobby and then could travel as much as you wanted for the week. You can buy daily tickets, 3 days ticket or a weeks ticket if i remember correctly.

It is well worth it, and so MUCH cheaper than taxis for a week, there are obvious downsides- they are not quite as frequent as i would like- having said that we never waited more than 10,15 minutes for one and it does get crowded, so adults may have to stand, people usually stood up for the children.

Equally make sure you study the I-Ride map, as until our last day i didnt realise you could get up to Universal Studios (you have to use the Green Line) and the walk is quite long!
