I called the U.S. Embassy and I think us 3 are ok and just need the visa waiver form.
However the person with the record needs to file a visa application and might have to go to the Embassy for a meeting to see if he can enter the U.S. or not.
If he files the application he will HAVE to go to the Embassy. I applied for a visa in under similar circumstances to your friend, you could do it by post back then. They didnt seem too bothered about the offence, more about my intention to return to the UK. Family ties here, a job, a house, they even wanted to see my bank and credit card statements!!
He will also need a memorandum of conviction, you get this from the Court that dealt with the matter, it can take a few weeks to get this so apply in good time.0 -
Ahem, and if he doesn't file a Visa ?. Smile, you only get one life, LIVE IT.0

Ahem, and if he doesn't file a Visa ?.
He could be refused entry as Karen said but if you delve deeper than the blanket "anyone arrested even if they werent charged" statement that is commonly quoted, it seems a conviction for a crime with a maximum sentence of a year inside, or less, is ok. Harrasment is 6 months maximum at first, it rises to 5 years for breach of an order or fear of violence, so he might still qualify for VWP. See HERE for the actual US legal wording.
If he chooses to go down the no visa route, it goes without saying that he should not inform anyone of this and tick no on the waiver form.
I am no lawyer and this info has been gathered from the web, so not offered as legal advice in any way.0 -
Now i'm not sure if it was just a caution or it was an actual arrest.
It just seems daft to me that everyone with a criminal record HAS to goto the embassy for a meeting. Smile, you only get one life, LIVE IT.0 -
Is it any good for adults (taking no kids) ?.
Just wondering if it's all "Ooo Mickey Mouse, lets hug him" or there are some rides / things for adults to do.
Or should we miss Disneyland and goto Universal.? Smile, you only get one life, LIVE IT.0 -
The other half and I went to SeaWorld...really good. Rides were fine, much better with no kids dragging along.
Oh, and I had my picture taken on a killer whale.0 -
there's lots for adults at Disneyworld, although it's 10 years since I was last there I don't imagine the balance of entertainment has changed all that much
if you read up about it, you'll see they have all sorts, even nightclubs (never did get round to going to one of those though)
the first time I (very reluctantly) went, it was for the kids, the second time was for us grown-ups, although the kids tagged along as well
we did Sea World, Busch, Universal, also other minor parks & have to say overall Disney was my favourite
but maybe I'm just a big kid at heart0 -
Yup definately fine to go without kids. I went on a work trip (training course in Florida for 3 weeks) on adults only so we chilled there at the weekend. Was great fun, especially since we went in December and there weren't any queues so we could take rides 3 times! On our recent holiday in October OH & I did Universal, Kennedy Space Centre and Sea World - didn't have time to add disney in. We timed our trip around a space shuttle launch, and luckily the weather held so we could see it. Went to a park near Space Park, and watched dolphins swimming in the bay before the shuttle launched. Very cool!
Remember that Kennedy Space Centre and Sea World allow you back in for a second day in the next 7 days IF you validate your ticket on the first day of entry. We bought our tickets at the tourist information in Orlando and got given "welcome to orlando packs" complete with razors (2 for women, 1 for men?!!) and toothpaste from them. Remember also, that car parking is extra to entrance tickets (except at Kennedy).0 -
HI Guys - Does anyone know if you can claim back state tax on shopping? I vaguely remember being able to do this in New York..
