    Hi

£9 a day on ciggies is a lot! I'm going to come across as an ex (I am) but stopping or cutting down would improve your finances a LOT. If you go to a smoking cessation clinic they can offer patches, tablets (I used champix), inhaler etc all for the cost of a prescription each week. The best advice they'll give you though is to stop smoking in the house and car. Two/three years ago I smoked about 30 sometimes 40 a day. When we banned smoking in the house it dropped to 15 a day (it is too cold in winter to go outside and smoke)!

Once you've nailed smoking in the house, try to delay each cig by 10 or 15 minutes (especially the first of the day). Then try monitor when you have the ones you "need". Suprising how many ciggies are because you're bored or out of habit (after dinner, with tea/coffee).

(hubby poured me the LARGEST glass of wine so I'm slowing down drastically so apologies if I cross post)... debt agencies such as CCCS, CAB, payplan and nationaldebtline are free of charge. The deal with DMPs all the time and can give IMPARTIAL advice.

Any extra money (left over once you've met minimum repayment amounts on debts) can be paid of whichever debts you want to pay first. Check out whatsthecost.com (snowball calculator) to see how paying off by interest amount can reduce your deft free date. Of course, there's NOTHING wrong with paying off the smallest amounts fist and having a few debt free "successes"! It's all about what you want and would be happy with!

Decide what you want to do, inform everyone on MSE (we'll certainly keep you motivated and cheer when you become debt free!

  • Can I just ask why you pay £28 a week for DD to go to nursery if you are on jobseekers? This is a lot of money to spend on unecessary childcare. Is there a reason for this? If not, could you stop it for a while and use the money for debts? How old is DD? Does she qualify for a free place yet?

Personally, I'd have taken the £70 drop to get rid of one debt but that would have been contingent on me having the money!!!

  • Also, you are spending a lot of money on taxis to go to town everyday. Can you skip a few days going to town? This would save loads too.

If you can afford it I would have paid it. So they wanted £180? Will it go up now you have said no?
