Stopping on a roundabout
Hi. Can anyone tell me where I can find the law pertaining to "Stopping on a roundabout"?
I stopped to briefly to pick a friend up and a Police officer said I committed an offence. I have searched the RTA Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 etc. But can't find any reference to this offence.

On a roundabout? Sounds like a terrible idea and if it's not an offence it should be.0

Unless it's a very large roundabout then parking within 10m of a junction would be the offence.0

That is not an offence in itself, although it is prohibited by rule 243 of the HC.
Likely offence is wilful obstruction.0 -
Road Traffic Act 1988.
Section 22
Leaving vehicles in dangerous positions.
If a person in charge of a vehicle causes or permits the vehicle or a trailer drawn by it to remain at rest on a road in such a position or in such condition or in such circumstances as to involve a danger of injury to other persons using the road, they are guilty of an offence.
Although there may be more than one offence, like breaching any clearway rules and causing an interference with a junction, I think that would be the main offence in relation to the Road Traffic Act.0 -

Did he say anything like he was reporting you or gave you any sort of ticket?
If he didn't, and it was a warning, just don't stop on roundabouts in future.
Trying to quote the Law at him will only result in you failing The Attitude Test, and you will likely find you vehicle gets inspected and you get the "where are you going?" "what is the purpose of your journey?" followed by a full check on insurance etc.
The wise reed bends with the windI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Driving without due consideration for other road users...?
Especially when there is specific legislation that looks at wilful obstruct for this very scenario.
Even wilful obstruct is a unlikely player its not meant to be used to a punative tactic for a roaduser collecting a passenger at the side of the unrestricted roadway if it was taxi's and busses would infring the section 137 on regular basis, This is why there is urban clearways and No stopping signs box junxtions and solid lines and hatchings instead.
Although highway code states you shouldnt stop it doesnt state MUST stop therefore there there is no lawful instruction in the highway code can only assume that they know something we dont.
I think the officer was unimpressed and wanted to vent knowing he had nothing to really get his pen and paper out for.0
