Ooh they are gorgeous, I noticed some in a neighbours garden the other day, i didn't know you could get white hydrangeas.I have made a start on another area of garden, Clay breaking again. It's hard work, I can't dig it. I have to get down on my knees and chip at it with hand tools. It takes an eternity and it's rough on my wrists so I do a section at a time. (My hour a day rule). I hadn't quite finished my designated area when I disturbed an ants nest. As I'm wearing a sleeveless top and no socks I quickly ran for cover. I'll go back tomorrow with wellies and a long sleeve top and gloves, outwit the little blighters. 😂🤣
The first section I did is much improved. I was able to dig it and then apply a second dose of claybreaker. Hopefully it will be ready for planting in the autumn. In the meantime I'm going to hire a skip and I have booked a slot at the recycling centre.....time to tackle the shed.....and clear the the last of the clutter from the side of the house.Tapas and wine.....sounds perfect.7 -
Catching ups with all your lovely champagne moments.
Mine has been... being in my lovely garden, reading, relaxing and pottering doing jobs.As a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or

Or as my Mum would instil, brush yourself down, tomorrow is another day or

My champagne moments today have revolved around seeing how well the newly reconfigured outdoor seating area is coming together!
It's not a huge space (overall approx 12' x 11', although only 9' x 7.5' is the actual dining area whilst the remainder is storage plus the boiler room), but now we've worked our *magic* it's perfectly formed....imho, anyway, lol!
This morning I've been re-hanging the gallery wall of floral-themed artwork - some original, some not that was mostly picked up at fleamarkets, antique fairs or auctions when DH bought/sold vintage/antique items for a living. A few came from car boots/charity shops and none cost more than £20.
I've left space for a pair of outdoor mirrors, but as these are currently on back order I'm not sure when we'll have them.
The first of the cabinets is done, just awaiting varnishing but the weather - cold/drizzling/windy - isn't conducive right now.
As it's not gardening weather, this afternoon I'm sitting out here in a cosy jumper (yep, in August!) finishing the delicate operation of cutting round the most fiddly bits of the final two or three botanical prints for the second cabinet with a craft knife. Hopefully these will get applied later (as I require DH's help with this or they're inclined to tear) and I'll be done
From my dry spot I can peruse what needs doing/harvesting in the veg beds and try not to think of my next outside job.....prepping/painting the side windows, which I hope to do before winter. Luckily we've a fraction here of the number I had to do at the last house!
Then I might begin reading my newly arrived book - a biography of Thomas Cromwell, a(nother) eBay bargain
I was hoping to take a couple of pics of my bargain bare root roses which have begun flowering, but as it's too wet to venture out to the garden proper I'm instead adding a few I took of the garden on Sunday when it was sunny!

Hello everyone - wow, you've all had some wonderful champagne moments! Phoebe your garden is so beautiful
Sugarbaby - I LOVED your daughter's shoes! So colourful and unique!
I had a champagne moment last night - I actually went out (out, out) for a meal with some friends I haven't seen in person since before Christmas! We got £10 off our meals each with the governments Eat Out to Help Out scheme. It was a bit chaotic, and there was no social distancing in the queue so I felt quite uncomfortable until we were seated. I also really feel for the staff who were rushed off their feet and not wearing any masks/PPE - I feel they are more at risk than us, really, as they are 'mixing' with so many people. Still, it was nice to see my friends and do my bit for the economy!
But my big news is - my house is sold! To first time buyers who came and looked at it on Saturday - I showed them round as the agent didn't have a free slot, and they loved it and rang the agent with an offer 5 mins after leaving! It's £5k below asking price but I'm happy with it - easier transaction as they are FTB and my agent has checked out their financial position with their advisor and it all looks good. They are also happy for me to find somewhere as they are not in a mad rush to move. I'm viewing a house on Saturday two streets away from the one I was rejected from (I'm not bitter! ) and £20K less. It looks livable but with potential which is good. Fingers crossed!! And thank you to all of you who took the time to commiserate with me about my rejected offer - much appreciated.7 -

Fantastic news Mrs S. good luck with the viewing on Saturday, hope it's the "The One".I think finding the right house is a bit like finding the right man......you just know when it happens. This house was an absolute pig sty......But I could see through all that. It wasn't the sellers fault, bless her heart. She was an elderly lady who had been looking after her husband. He was suffering from dementia and was in a poor state, He had been a doctor and they had downsized from a very large family so the house was very cluttered. He had moved Into a nursing home. She was visiting him every day, she just couldn't cope, she was just overwhelmed. He actually died half way through the process which meant a few delays but luckily mine were FTB too so they waited for me.As I always say......."if it's for you it won't go by you".A lot of the clutter I have in the shed And garden belonged to them......it isn't all mine. 😂10

Mrs S Congratulations on selling your home. My daughters shoes are Irregular Choice shoes. She has about 50 plus pairs of their shoes and many of the matching handbags. It is her favourite brand.
My Champagne moments yesterday were my younger son popping in with his laundry and telling me what great results he has achieved in his 2nd year of his Degree. I am so proud of him.
My Champagne moment today was informing my younger son that he had his 1st £25 win on his premium bond investment.6 -
Brilliant news, mrs_s Hopefully you'll love the one you're viewing tomorrow!
I agree with you, LL, I've usually found that it's apparent within the first moments of entering a property whether it's the one or not.......... although, that said, I certainly didn't feel the love for our current place!
We've only ever purchased fairly major renovation projects - including the one that had been converted to four tenanted flats that had all been left in a truly appalling state - but whilst there were no surprises here (it was a repossession), it just didn't tug at my heartstrings the way every other one we've bought has. Mainly because although 400 years old, the previous owners had stripped all evidence of character/history out
They even sold the original roof!!!
Still, it just shows how wrong you can be, as 2.5 years on we've gone some way to reinstating the period *charm* and - whilst I still wouldn't say I loved it as much as our previous homes - I can now see why we chose it.......Mortgage-free for fourteen years!
