Freeman Bingo.
I get
"Act of parliament" (of "act of parliament requires consent"), "sheep", "scam" and "I know my rights".:)0 -

You don't know your rights, you just make them up to suit yourself. I'm sure it won't be long till 'knowing your rights' causes you a lot of problems with that sort of attitude you've got.0 -

I just want to be a fly on the wall in the Magistrates court when he refuses to pay his council tax bill, or even better (for the sake of amusement of the onlookers) if it's a proper judge
I love freemen of the land, at least as long as I don't have to deal with them(I have very little patience for nonsense most of the time when I'm dealing with it).
This assumes that he has actually refused to pay it, and is eligible to pay it.0 -
Yes, a contract requires the agreement of all parties so tell me, as you are not a party to the contract, why should you have to give consent to anything?
There is one contract between you and the sender of the goods and there is an entirely separate contract between the sender and the postal companies.0 -
So I got stung with the £8 handling fee today! Along with the VAT came to £11.50! My item was £17.70 though the thing is it was marked on the package as GIFT so this is the fault of the HMR customs miss-reading it. I spoke to someone who said to fill out a form and request a full refund.
The only thing that concerns me is the item was bought on ebay so really it is not a gift, they just marked it that way. So I'm guessing it getting charged VAT was the legal thing to do? I'm not fussed about the VAT, just that bloody extortionate Royal Mail charge.
Seems they only do this with items that request tracking.0 -

I notice you say marked as a gift, not a gift.
So are you annoyed at the VAT or not?
Because no VAT means no fee.
£11.50 for adding VAT is fine, paying the VAT for you isnt?
Tracking has nothing to do with whether VAT is due.0 -
I'm not bothered about the VAT, though the RM handling fee to collect it is what annoys me. The fact that the item was marked as a gift and customs charged the VAT anyway, which resulted in RM charging the handling fee.
Ideally the VAT would be pre-paid so customs wouldnt have to make RM pay for it and go through that handling fee crap.0 -

If the sellers paid the VAT, they would be required pay HMRC, get a receipt, then when the payment had been processed, send the goods.
This extra service would still need to be paid for and it would result in every single import that is over the £15 being charged where as at the moment, many packages get delivered without being chosen for import duties.0 -

Well you owe the VAT & handling fee then what are you moaning about?
Seriously, the fact it was marked gift was a con and you admit to knowing it. You have an absolute cheek coming on here complaining about this.
Before you accuse me of working for any of these establishments, read my sig.
You are just a complete joke complaining about this!0 -
