Freeview Recording Smart Box Thingy....

Afternoon all!

I am looking to ditch Sky and go with Now TV - but I want a freeview box that will record. Does anyone have a recommendation for one? I would have no idea what to get! I know Now TV do have a smart box but it doesn't say if it records.

NowTV have two Smart boxes one HD and one 4K, the earlier can pause for 30 minutes only.


You can get NowTV via a variety of boxes see their website. For both NowTV and Freeview combined a Youview box gives limited access to NowTV services (to be increased next year) but cannot record NowTV now but maybe able to next year depending on ISP.

Don't forget that if you get a Freeview box you need an aerial, if you want to use the feed from the satellite dish that goes into the back of the Sky box then you actually need a recordable Freesat box (just buy a Humax).

The only caveat is if you presently have Sky Q then you'd need to change the LNB at the end of the arm on the dish for a Sky HD/Freesat compatible version.

They're of course the Freeview Humax boxes

The Freesat Humax boxes are here (only 1 is recordable, the Humax HDR-1100S):-

I'd be surprised if Now TV becomes recordable -that would undermine the Sky TV model massively.

Meanwhile, in the UK, the previously announced deal that will see Now TV being offered on BT YouView boxes will be expanded to allow customers to record channels, something that isn't possible on other devices.

I read that as being people who have BT Youview boxes will be able to record NowTV channels, so you'd need a BT Youview subscription?

If you get a bt youview box next year they are making it so bt youview customers can actually record direct from now tv
