Sealed Pot Challenge ~ 12

Potted £10 in £2s today. First time in a while. The good news is that I've put down a deposit on a car today and collect it on Friday. Yay. Thanks to my mum, as she would rather I paid off the outstanding loan balance for the car I no longer have (given that it's another 3.5 years it does make sense). Haven't quite got enough to cover it all but it will pay off the majority of it, then I have a lump sum maturing in about August/September which I can use to pay off the rest and what I don't use for the rest of my loan I'll give to my mum. Meanwhile I'll pay her back monthly in place of the loan payments.

I've managed a month or so with the fixer-upper from my garage but it's unlikely to pass its MOT next month and as it's an old car with a big engine, it drinks petrol like nobody's business. BUT it's allowed me to carry on using the park and ride - so I didn't lose out by not being able to use my tram pass as I can't get to it easily without transport and no buses go from where we live via a direct route to the nearest terminus - and it's been there for short journeys. I haven't dared take it too far, a 20-mile round trip to my sister's and back last week after our Take That gig is the furthest it's been.

My new car is another Toyota Yaris, a year older (07) than my previous one but with very low mileage (45000) and only one MOT fail ever, one previous lady owner and a meticulous service history. DH doesn't get why I love Yarises so much but I don't need anything bigger - he has the 'big' car for holidays and stuff. He moans that he can't fit in it, but he went in my first Yaris and as I said to him, if his life depended on it he'd go in it! :rotfl:

I just hope there are no nasty surprises in terms of the courtesy car I had; haven't heard anything about paying for the repair where it was scratched, nor about whether the third party's insurers are going to pay up for the courtesy car hire. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one :undecided

It sounds ridiculous but it has gone a long way to easing my resentment about the whole car situation. As I said to my mum today when I was checking the car out, I had such a brilliant plan at the beginning of the year for my money and savings, etc., and this whole episode basically ruined it. Best laid plans and all that...

The sealed pot and Christmas pot will help towards other stuff, and all my other money will go to getting straightened out again.

Sorry for the waffling post!! I realise it's not really "moneysaving" to be splurging on a new car but it will be more so in the long run!

I realise it has been quite a while since i last posted (January :eek: )

I have been busy with work/life stuff but i have still been potting. I had saved around £450 but had to use it unfortunately but the jar was resealed and so I have started the jar from scratch again.

I do have £35 in supermarket christmas rewards, £400 in P**k christmas savings (I always get vouchers)

Afternoon potters! :hello:

Not posted in a while (work and life have a habit of getting in the way), but I have been religiously adding to the pot every chance I get!

Rare day off today, so currently busy batch cooking for the weekend because I’ll be working 13 hour days (boo!). At least this way I’m avoiding the temptation to splurge on expensive snacks (my willpower plummets along with my blood sugar levels...).

Now time for the confession...I may have opened the pot to count the goodies inside
In my defence, I was losing motivation and needed to see the fruits of my labour to keep me on course for the next 6 months. As it is, I don’t know the exact amount, but the £2, £1 and 50p coins alone came to over £330! :j That was definitely motivation enough for me to seal it all back up and keep going! Combining that with £350-ish from surveys and cashback (henceforth known as my emergency fund), I’m feeling pretty positive! :dance:

Few more coins added to the pot this evening. Now over £161 in it. Window cleaner came this week so I have replenished the pot this evening with his next lot of money otherwise would have been another £8 in the pot. I like to have that money set aside.

95p potted today, change from boys haircut and a loaf of bread. Leaves me £1 in my purse until Tuesday payday and the May budget kicks in:)

£1 change from shopping trip to the city. Did have more £1 coins but needed to use them to pay the tram fare as the machine only takes coins or cards (no notes) and I don’t use my card to pay for low value items.
