  • Pop over to the DMP mutual support thread to check about the affect on your credit rating. The posters on there will explain it better than me, the collection agencies explained it to me but im not sure I can re-explain it properly. It's not to much of an issue for me as my credit score is trashed anyway. I took it to mean that it would show as partially settled but six years after the original default got put on it all dissapears anyway so no one is any the wiser. If you have done DMP for 8 years you may not have any defaults showing at all any more do it might not matter what you pay to get rid of the debts. If that makes sense.
I settled two debts by paying 60% of total amount owed. The idea is to offer low and then settle if you want to/can afford to on a rate that you are both happy with. debtline has template letters for this. I put a little bit aside each month with a view to offering it to clear one of my debts in a few years. Hence my optimistic hope of 5-8 years to be clear.

And very well done by the way in setting the task to run past payday. Bonus points for that x

  • Thanks ImpulseSpender - he will be fine. He'd cut his tail on what the vet suspects was barbed wire :( By the time I got home from work on Tuesday he'd lost a fair bit of blood. Luckily they managed to shave, clean and staple it shut whilst he was awake and he's now on anti-inflammatories and antibiotics but is feeling very sorry for himself. The key now is that he or the other 2 don't pull the staples out and that he stays in - this is going to be hard, he's already crawling the walls

The money for this came out of our emergency fund which will obviously have to be replaced but so long as he's ok that's all I'm worried about. At the end of the day that's what an emergency fund is for right? :)

I took a day holiday yesterday to stay with him - at least it meant I couldn't spend anything :rotfl:

    So yesterday was day 21/21!

Meal plan started off a little dodgy what with the cat being poorly but I managed to be sensible the rest of the day:
    Breakfast - 6+ custard creams!
    Lunch - Rice & chille
Dinner - tuna pasta bake with garlic bread

And I didn't leave the house, so obviously didn't spend a thing! I've ended the challenge with £11.15 in my purse so 5p will go to my 5p coin bottle, £1.10 will go to my penny-a-day challenge and £10 will go into a pot towards an overpayment/f&f offer. The £66ish pounds in my bank account will also go into this pot so that's around £75 towards debt repayment in 21 days which I would not have had available if I'd not done this challenge.

    Well done charhen19 !

AMAZING work and it's fab to see that not only did you stick to your plan, but you're also going to carry it on!

  • Thanks adg89 - I found your diary just yesterday! I will be subscribing :)

Yes I'll carry this on into December for sure. From now until 1st Dec I have direct debits coming out of my account, my big supermarket shop and fill the car up with petrol, pay works lottery etc. so I won't document it. I'll stick to £10 a day and then come 1st December will start "21 days of pain - again!!" and will go with £9 a day up to 21st. Not sure how I'll fare but I can only give it a go!
