  • Just to add, I have a Samsung J600 which has developed the cracked LCD fault - all by itself - and I'd also be interested to learn what Fiona11 put in her letter to the retailer. I will be writing to Tesco mobile 'robustly' soon.
  • just to add another unhappy customer to the growing list.. had my D900i a few months, taken good care of it. Pulled it out of my pocket and low and behold the screen had a crack all through it (not out the outside, but internally). Looks like one of those crazy fractal images when you press it in! lol Not sure why we should have to pay a penny for these repairs. Samsung should do it out of good will for selling a substandard product!! Not that thats ever gonna happen!

Jinowl, you will hear from some that this is down to user mistreatement, or carelessness or some other action by the user.

Because so many people seem to be able to break the screens on these phones by just keeping them in their pocket etc, it is perfectly clear to me that these phones are not made of suitable materials to withstand everyday use.

In other words, they are not 'fit for purpose'.
  • Just to advise, I took this line with Tesco Mobile and obtained a refund for my J600, after some correspondence. Their repair centre's hostility and obstructiveness probably helped me.
  • I am yet another owner of a samsung D900i which has developed a cracked screen through no fault of my own,i have had numourous contacts with samsung after they insisted i must of dropped it (which i didn't) to no avail,i have just sent an e-mail to watchdog at the bbc,if everybody does the same they will have to investigate and more than likely get an expert to agree with us all that this phones screen is not good enough,i am sure samsung would not like the adverse publicity just before christmas when they normally sell a large percentage of there phones
  • I've just had a reply from "Prepaymania" regarding a Sony Erc phone that started with a small purple dot and grew a line across the LCD screen. Having advised them of the problem they invited me to send in the phone. After 2 weeks they advised me that caused by user damage and that they'd repair for £35. If I want the phone back I've got to pay. They've sent an email stating that "can be a result of damage" - my response is "can be" is open ended and that if all LCD damage as described by myself is never a result of a screen fault why invite a customer to return the phone.

I've purchased a Nokia 5310 to replace the phone and will take this one as far as I can go - unless it can be proved that LCD's cannot develop a fault and crack or are below standard in manufactoring making them more liable to damage - I'll probably go as far as issuing an online application at the county court. I will try trading standards as well. The fact is if it was a result of user damage I'd pay just like I have previously with my wifes LG Shine!

I'd be interested to know how others get on with this
