The screen is available on Ebay for around £32 post free, but it is not a job for the inexperienced, I have seen it done and as I recall, needs a soldering iron to complete.
Unfortunately, it's easy for the retailer to prove the "fault" wasnt present at time of sale:
"See the big crack down the middle of the LCD, was it there when the phone was sold? No? sorry but you have broken it! User Damage"
Just for the record. There is no large crack down the LCD screen. There seems to be a small hole under the screen and the liquid is gradually seeping out.Politeness is free, it costs nothing!0 -
I refer to your last paragraph.
I hope you are not calling my daughter a liar. There is not a single mark on the outside of the phone. It is 100% damage free on the outside. I have absolutely no reason to believe that my daughter would lie to me. In the past if she has made a mistake, she has always told me about it, we have an honest and open relationship. She is in no way scared of me!
there may not be a mark but impact of any kind could have caused it as the poster said by knocking against her chair even slightly or onto a door. i know what you mean about the ink running but that is a cracked screen and how they usually appear and usually it will only be inside where there is damage it seems they have harder casing on the outside screen than the inside screen.Yes Your Dukeiness0 -

it will need a soldering iron to complete and also when i took an old e800 apart, it ended up in a more worse condition compared to before i took it apart0

the external glass is not part of the LCD screen, it's part of the housing. The LCD screen is the glass bit under the external lens.====0 -

Same thing happened to me over the weekend. This time it was a Samsung U600 (which is super thin). Was using it ok one moment - put it on the side, next time picked it there was a massive crack on the LCD with "bleeding"!! Not a scratch or bump to speak of on the external casing. 2 months into a 18 month contract - Fantastico!Cashback Sites

Just to update everyone. I contacted trading standards, as advised by someone on this thread, who advised me to write to Virgin (the store where the phone was purchased) advising them I expect a reply within 3 days. They advised what to write in the letter. The following morning I had a phone call from the manager of the store to say a brand new identical phone would be delivered to my house, by courier, the following morning.
Thank you to everyone, especially KeithP, it was worth it, and he was right, Virgin were liable as the phone was only 2 months old. Trading Standards were great.Politeness is free, it costs nothing!0
