Help - Virgin have really let us down!

  • I finally understand! It's incredibly frustrating - similar thing happened to us when we booked a flight six months beforehand and BA just cancelled and refunded our money, but to get another flight cost us a lot more....

Virgin aren't under any obligation other than to put you on another flight. I suspect that's why Photome is asking if there are any other flights ( different airline) from Barbados to the UK the day you were originally supposed to leave as I *think* you could insist Virgin puts you on that flight?

Again, why should we suffer and compromise on the final day of what is an extremely expensive holiday that we’ve booked to be top class just to suit Virgin?

Because the Ts & Cs you signed up to when you booked the holiday allow flight changes and cancellations to happen. Best advice I can give is to get off the high horse, drop the sense of entitlement, and work with your supplier to come to a compromise. Or claim off your travel insurance - you do have travel insurance to cover this, don't you?

Not sure why people are being dense about your OP, pretty clear what you meant, and youre not being unreasonable in expecting Virgin to compensate for the inconvenience they are causing. However, i think Virgin have offered reasonable solutions. They may have cancelled the direct Virgin flight back to the UK, but I suspect there will be Delta flights to the US which could connect onto a Virgin/Delta codeshare back to the Uk. Despite what the agent told you in the shop they’re the same alliance and supposed to be partners, so you could ask for an indirect t flight back if you don’t want to spend extra for another night in Barbados.

I doubt insurance will cover this.

There are no other virgin flights. There is only one the following day. I did respond earlier saying we’d booked premium economy on the return flight, so it’d be difficult for virgin to get us in with another airliner.

And you’re right, I don’t want to compromise, tell me why I should? Virgin have caused this, not us. Virgin cancelled the flight. Virgin advised us to book internal flights ourselves. Virgin want to change the dates. We want to fly out on the day we booked, and back on the day we booked. Virgin cannot honour our booking, so they should accept they need to pay to rectify this, and we shouldn’t have to pay an extra penny, do you not agree?

It doesn’t have to be a virgin flight , yes you may have to forgo premium economy if they put you on another flight but then should refund the PE upgrade

I do agree in an ideal world you shouldn’t have to pay any extra and you don’t as they have offered a refund.

As you have booked extras a refund isn’t really an option so you will have to work with Virgin for the best outcome

Has Virgin Holidays given you a price of £325 for that extra night in Barbados? I know Hotels in Barbados are not that cheap these days but unless you are at Sandy Lane that price seems very high. I would ask them to look at that pricing again.
  • Not sure what you're getting for £10k, seems pricy, but if you're not happy then just take a refund and book with someone else. Plenty great holidays to be had for that price

Are there any flights with other airlines on your original return date?

The point is, if there are then you could insist that Virgin put you on one, at their expense. That would cost them more than paying for the extra night. So you could use this as a bargaining chip.

(Not to mention the premium economy: it can also be expensive for them to compensate a passenger with a premium-class ticket who is forced to travel in ordinary economy.)

Good grief I’d take the refund. You can get return to New York for £400 at times. I bet you can get returns from New York to Barbados for not that much. Booking hotels is simple enough. Could stick with the same dates, prob get an upgrade on all and still have change left over. Just allow enough time for your flights if your booking them yourself separately
