Feeling ripped off !!!

Hi guys, please bear with me, my wife yesterday went to a BP petrol station in Ruthin, N.wales and was just gonna put in a 5er's worth to get us home as we always fuel up at Sainsbury's!
She'd gone past a 5er and so thought she'd put 6 and overshot again and ended up with £7 of diesel in our Citroen C4 VTR+. She got in and realised when she'd driven a half mile that the fuel reader was still showing only the 62 miles to empty it was on when she'd dropped me off.
She then returned to the filling station to complain where she was 'fobbed off' saying the likes of "it's not enough (£7) to register"!
She then went to a filler station a little further down the Denbigh road and put the remaining £3 (from her original 10er) in and, also, that too did not register with the fuel reader.
She then returned to do some shopping in the town before picking me up and explaining an hour later. I then also returned to the BP and had it out with the staff who would not refund our money, would not phone their manager, would not phone the Police that I requested as I felt they were 'thieving' from us.

My question to you is :-
Is there any way you can enquire whether the first 'X' amount of fuel does not get delivered into the tank or does not register? Bear in mind that my wife had allegedly put in £10's worth of fuel (which has got to be more than a gallon in anyone's money) and it still stayed at 62 miles dropping to 59, 53 and 47 during our 20 miles journey to Sainsbury's in Wrexham!

Many thanks,
Taff

On modern cars that is probably possible, I have done the same on a Polo, put a fiver in and the gauge didn't move.

The filling station's pumps are manufactured to high standards, calibrated regularly and subject to spot checks by trading standards. The gizmo on your Citroen isn't any of those.

At current fuel prices £5 will get you about a thimble full. I doubt it would trouble your gauge much.
  • The fact that it only dropped 15 miles (62 to 47) for a 20 mile journey demonstrates just how inaccurate it is.

:rotfl:oh oh op, shot himself in the foot

surely this is dark matter only he would have enough time to come up with this stuff
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

If things are so tight. I suggest not wasting fuel returning to petrol stations to argue with them.
  • Perhaps the wife put the fuel in the radiator and not in the fuel tank. :D

To get your refund simple take your and your wife’s driving licences, send them to the DVLA with a letter explaining the situation.

    There’ll do the right thing....

You're absolutely right - do this people not know you're a unique and special Snowflake and they must pander to your every concern?

Clearly even though every single pump is calibrated to a specific standard and checked thoroughly periodically, both these petrol stations have actually found a way of pumping water in to tank instead and your car knows it not diesel, so knows its been tricked.

I suggest you write a firmly worded letter to your MP and have him raise a question in Parliament on your behalf.
