30% over estimate is scary number with bills going up.

Sorry you are struggling with the pinging - hopefully it will improve over the holidays.

Stress levels are rising…I’ve still not wrapped anything. DH has been working and I’ve been entertaining the kids. And both of them keep getting up in the night so I’m having a right mare.

Ah well, it will all work out I’m sure. And the kitchen is well stocked for Christmas so all is well there.

I’ve been a cleaning maniac this week and the house hasn’t looked so good in ages.

I’ve also booked us a weekend away next September for DS1s 10th birthday. In The Dragon Tower! I can’t wait.

    Honestly, I can’t wait!

I managed to get half wrapped last night, so fingers crossed I get the rest done today at a decent hour. I don’t want to be wrapping into the early hours.

So Christmas all went a bit downhill after my last post. DH's dad was coming round with the boys cousins so we all did LFT's before hand. And you've guessed it, one came back with a positive result - DS2. So we cancelled the playdate and booked PCR tests instead for Christmas Eve in the hope of rescuing Boxing Day if it came back as a false positive.

Results took an age to come back but Boxing Day night we got the text to confirm the positive result. Boo. He's a bit off colour and tired but no real symptoms, which I'm pleased about. He'll be out of isolation ready to go back to school so that's good. Just means he's missed his entire Christmas holidays really. And my parents couldn't come for our traditional boxing day celebration for a second year running.

The rest of us are all negative still, but based on when he was a close contact and how long he took to become positive I'm expecting someone to test positive by weekend, if we are going to.

Still, we had a lovely relaxed Christmas, just the four of us. And I spent Boxing Day taking out my frustrations on the boys room, so I sorted through their entire drawers to remove anything that was the wrong size. I've then moved the furniture around so their room is ready for when the bunk beds come (which has been delayed until Feb!

Well this puts my MF journey into perspective. I've just had a look at the old mortgage illustration. It says that by the end of October 2021 we should owe £12,566.23 more than we currently do! Wow. That's amazing.

By the end of October 2022 we should owe
£5,246.52 more than we currently do.

And with another 2 months of just standard payments we will be where we should have been at the end of the 5 year fix with no additional OP's.

WOW! The fix rate doesn't end until October 2023. By that time I'm aiming to get us down to where the mortgage illustration says we should be at the end of year 8!

Sorry that covid scuppered your plans. Better safe than sorry.

Well done on the mortgage. That's fantastic progress.

So there’s some pretty serious stuff going on with my sister, I won’t go into too much detail here because it’s quite personal and possibly identifying. But it involves mental health difficulties and alcoholism. It’s been going on for years, but she’s out done herself the last few months.

She’s in such a bad way and seems to be deteriorating quickly. I’ll genuinely be surprised if she’s still with us this time next year.

My nephew came back from abroad to try and help out (his dads been poorly too), but she’s just not in a place to accept help. We’ve had to call the police on her a few times for her own safety. There’s no real point to mentioning it, other than to just point out I’m feeling a bit delicate. And that being MF isn’t the be all and end all. She’s no debt and is MF, but has no money because she drinks it all away and her health is terrible.

My grandma is also in a bad way, she’s 90 next year and clearly has some sort of dementia. But my dad and his brother (late 60s) are so resistant to getting help they are virtually killing themselves trying to look after her.

DH has found some lumps in his tummy and is having all sorts of digestive issues I’m trying to get him to go to the doctors, but he keeps putting it off. His grandad died of some sort of colon cancer and I think that’s in his head. He’s being very difficult to live with atm, very shouty and very negative (which isn’t like him really).

Argh, I’m just feeling a bit overwhelmed today.

Think I’m going to make a nice post of things I want for the house/plan to do to the house in the coming months just to cheer me up a bit and to shift my mindset from being such a negative Nelly.
