Can I be sacked?

Hi
I have been with my company for 16 years and have been off work with anxiety since June.
My problems started when I took a new role last year and wasn't given any training or support. The person who was meant to show me tasks was just snappy and didn't have the time to show me.
I highlighted my concerns to management last year and again a few times this year, but it all fell on deaf ears. I wasn't allowed to move internally without my managers position, I asked her and she told me it would get better.
When I went off sick I informed occupational health that I couldn't return to the same job as i had given it 9 months but nothing was being done about the lack of training and snappiness of my co-worker.
I recently had a meeting with work and they told me they haven't put any steps into helping me come back to work as I had said right from the beginning that I wouldn't be returning until I secured another role.
My problem is sitting at home with no routine I am getting depressed. I've tried getting out and about but this is always at the back of my mind. It just feels like this has gone on forever.
After months of applying I have managed to get an interview which is in two weeks, but it hasn't been easy.
I asked them what would happen to my job as I noticed they have advertised a vacancy in my team. They simple said "the work still needs to continue" does this mean they can sack me?

I'm sorry, but you cant expect your employer to just find you another job to do because you don't like this one.
Given what you said, they could have sacked you pretty quickly0 -
but surely its their error for mis-selling be a job? They promised training but did not deliver.
I left a perfectly good job for this.0 -
I didn't resign because of my length of service, I want to stay with the company0

No. You applied for the job. You were successful. That's it.
If you don't like it, you find another job.
(it wasn't perfectly good, if you thought this was better; sorry, but this one of the chances you take when you get a new role)0 -

If I was your manager, I would have taken your comments as a resignation. You're lucky they've been sympathetic.0 -

Surely as an employer should be providing training. It's not a case of "I don't like it" I am bullied on a day to day basis, there is zero structure. Yes I could raise a grievance but I don't see the point.

I don't see how I can return to that role if they won't train me or provide me with any support0

OP - you don't hold many (if any) cards in this situation and your refusal to return until you have a new role is likely to (and probably should) get you no role.
If you've been there 16yrs it's shocking that you don't understand the organisation and the political structure within it to lead to such issues. If OH aren't doing anything about it and the organisation isn't going to make changes then either they're a crap organisation (in which case you're better out) or they've decided that the issue is you but don't yet have the heart to tell you and are hoping you realise that yourself.
I speak as someone in a similar position who's been off since June and just returned to work. I know now what I want for my future and it's unlikely to involve my current role but will involve staying at the company - I do realise that changes will have to be made over a period of time and aren't suddenly going to happen because I demand them. If I want change now then I have to make the radical change myself.0 -

An employer had no legal obligation to provide training, whether you need it or not. If there's no structure, then that's the way they operate - their business, their choice. As we keep telling people, these may not be the ways you would run a business. As soon as toy own a business you may run it as you like. Until then you accept how they run their business or find a place that suits you better. That's simply the way of the world. It isn't your call. If you can't return to that job, then you need to decide whether you resign or get sacked. Because it will come to one or the other.0
