Oled tv screen burn

A newbie - this forum caught my eye! I too purchased an LG OLED TV in January 2017 from John Lewis. It is displaying screen burn along the bottom of the screen and the engineer says that the panel needs replacing. My TV use is normal and I don't leave the TV on pause for crazy periods of time so one has to ask - is it me or is there a problem with TVs that were supplied I late 2016/early 2017? I am waiting to hear from John Lewis but one thought occurred to me. I purchased the additional accidental damage guarantee. If their view is that it is not defective and that the damage is "my fault" because screen burn is caused by leaving the TV on pause for too long should they cover the problem as accidental damage? It seems to me that they can't have it both ways - either the TV is defective in which case they should cover it under their 5 year guarantee or it is accidental damage. Has anyone else had that debate with John Lewis or any other party in respect of such a guarantee?0

Accidental is someone hitting the screen with a chair leg as they walk past with one in hand, I wouldn't have thought you leaving it on pause (for instance) for long periods would count.0 -
In the first instance I would draw John Lewis's attention to the fact that both PC World and Richer Sounds have already replaced panels free of charge (reference this thread). Surely they do not wish any adverse publicity?0

...I'm very pleased to say that John Lewis are behaving honorably and have offered me either a replacement or refund, both of which are fair compensation. All being well I should soon be receiving a new Samsung QLED (fingers crossed), which I note comes with a 10 year Samsung warranty against screenburn (they must have more faith in their products)!
Hopefully LG are in turn compensating retailers!0 -
Excellent! The more we succeed the easier it should be for everyone else with a similar problem.0

Thanks all. Let's hope John Lewis live up to their (generally well deserved) reputation. Colin_maybe - I don't disagree with your analysis but screen burn has to be caused either by a defect or by something the user has done. If the latter why differentiate between bashing it with a chair leg and leaving it on pause too long! I will report back when I hear from JL0

I was not so fortunate - John Lewis & Partners dug their heels in and it was going to end up in court - So I settled for a £750 cash refund for my defective OLED - I got to keep the TV too which is now in another room unused.
Please to all purchasers of OLED TV tech... it is really easy to damage these - Mine was barely used estimate 5k hours of use over 2 years and it had most prominent screen burn from watching Sky News over breakfast on a day to day basis
Be careful as they are excellent TV's when they are fault free but far too susceptible to this type of damage0 -
I have the same issue, screen burn from a 2016 LG B6 model. John Lewis refused to work with me on a solution so I went down the Small Claims Court route. They failed to respond to the Court in a timely manner and have now missed the boat, I am now waiting for a County Court Judgement to be passed against them for the full amount plus initial fee which is almost £4,000.0

I have a Panasonic oled tv, purchased from currys august last year complete with 5 year warranty... in the last couple of months we have noticed a rectangle in the centre of the screen, most visible in lighter colours. I booked it in with Currys and they took it away for nearly a week only to respond 'it's burn in and not covered'. I was beyond shocked, how can this be legal, we have statutory laws to ensure consumers are not impacted by sub standard products? I must add, this has been used for light domestic use only and can't ever recall a menu in the centre of the screen that could cause this...
I called Panasonic direct who confirmed the warranty exception, however, they offered one of their own engineers to assess it after I sent them pictures.
I may not get to experience panasonic's customer service as Currys returned my tv yesterday, badly damaged.0 -
This(or something very similar) has come up before.
After the first long maintenance/cleaning cycle on an OLED you get the defect .
Can't remember if it is Panasonic but all the panels are LG anyway
check AV forums
have you tried a long cleaning cycle?
you have been letting the short cycles run by only putting the tv in standby and not switching it off.
