ME advocating to pay the cowboys ????
Such a silly statement given the posts I make on here
    Do read it properly

How are they going to get your credit card details if you don't pay them?

Call it whatever you wish, the DVLA collect money for providing data ... period. The Data is given to unknowns who will in turn collect credit card info.

So you'd rather the DVLA provided the information at the tax payers expense?

Interesting ? you are saying then to use the width of the text
box ...... I find that this can actually drop lines ....

I am on Windows 10 using Google chrome

No idea what your issue is ... I'm using Chrome and whether on Windows 7 or Windows 10 I just type and type and type and let the text word-wrap in the text entry box. Once I post this reply this paragraph will fit to the width of the forum, depending on what skin/theme/style you've applied.

If I need a new paragraph I just hit Enter a couple of times, like I just did for this paragraph.

I do NOT get the issue you've described - it sounds like something is inserting carriage return/line feeds for you; or you're subconsciously pressing Enter when the text in the box reaches the width of the entry box.

umm not quite , the system was set up for government bodies/councils to get info for FINES and criminal actions , by an electronic means

private companies and individuals can apply for data , but for those requests they are done manually and a VERY GOOD REASON given

in a lot of cases , for example ,own parking space , should the manual request at the DVLA not start bells ringing when the parking co say "parking at 6 fred st" and the data shows that the owner lives at 6 fred st

electronic KADOE should be scrapped for parking Cos , the DVLA should scrutinise each and every request for data

I dont care if they cannot handle it , overworked , short staffed , that is not our problem , charge the parking Cos £250 and employ more staff!!

then link the DVLA to the court service , any companies that proceed to court action without doing further checked - trace / electoral rolls and cause a default that results in a set aside should be banned for 6 mths for wasting court time

I agree with most of that except the bit about staff shortages. As a tax payer I'd say it is our problem and I'd like everything done in the most efficient manner possible and utilising technology. Employing an army of staff to check every enquiry isn't something I'd be in favour of.

But my original point was that, given that the DVLA are required to provide the information, I'm not sure why Beamerguy seemingly objects to them charging to cover the costs of its provision.

I don't think he was ... I think he was making the point that DVLA shouldn't have any obligation to provide the info to private companies via electronic means (at minimal charge). Make it a manual process (which takes time and costs the PPC a lot of money) and the problem essentially goes away overnight. :)
  • and any companies that insist on going for defaults , in many cases without checking correct info (say within 3 mths of claim) at there own cost should be banned from access

this would reduce the large amount of defaults we read about

I think the DVLA will be bricking themselves over this. They release the info, they should carry out the necessary checks & balances to see who they are providing the info to

I'm waiting for a response to an FoI I put into the DVLA a few weeks ago.

Which if the response I get, is what I think it will be, I will forward it straight to the ICO

So long as we get our money, we don't care if they have any safeguards in place or not
Private Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA :D

Here is the clue, I NEVER SAID THAT.

They can charge £100 if they wish, I simply don't care,
it's the release of data to unregulated companies and
    what happens to that ???
