Just two current accounts, with Nationwide, one for general stuff, the other for paying bills by direct debit (certain amount goes into this account each month from the main account).

Also have savings accounts, though only two (sort of back-up, easy access ones) with Nationwide. Other savings are not with banks.

Don't want to make life too complicated when it comes to banking, or spend too much time on money counting, etc. Prefer to keep things simple. Could possibly change my mind if the rewards were really good for me, but that seems to be a long way from happening.

    Between my wife and I:
    4 X First Direct
    4 X Santander
    4 X M&S
    2 X HSBC
    4 X TSB
    4 X Tesco
    4 X Nationwide
    2 X Bank of Scotland
    2 X Halifax
    6 X Virgin
    2 X Raisin

17 of these are Regular Saving Accounts. It is time consuming each month checking what went where and when!

Thought this poll may be fun and surprise a few people and maybe even me, how many bank accounts do we hold? Whether dormant, for donor/switching rewards. I’m use, or ‘as back up’.

I now only have 2 but at one time had 7.

My resolution not to comment on pointless polls anymore is now broken already...
...because I just wanted to say:

I assume, OP, you mean how many current accounts do people have? Or do you mean literally how many bank accounts? The answers, so far,, suggest some people think you mean current accounts, others think you mean any bank account. Which, when you think about it, means the poll answers are meaningless as you don't know what people think you mean. That only matters, of course, if the answers would be meaningful anyway.
  • 13 solo current accounts including 3 X BoS and 2 X Tesco. Each one continues to serve a purpose and involves minimal maintenance. Sooner or later, I might pick the least useful and switch it to M&S.
  • Awaiting the next “A vs. B” post now..
  • Just out of curiosity- how do you fund all those accounts, or do you have one just for car costs like insurance fuel tax etc? One for household bills, ones for holiday money and saving, one for salary to go in, etc?

Just for example: at start of month transfer £2,300 from main feeder to HSBC. Leave £250 in HSBC for Regular Saver (RSA), immediately transfer £2,050 to LLoyds. Leave £700 in Lloyds for 2 X RSAs and 2 X DDs, transfer £1,350 to FD. Leave £300 in FD for RSA, transfer £1,050 to Nationwide. Leave £250 in Nationwide for RSA, transfer £800 to Halifax. Leave £300 in Halifax for RSA + 2 X DDs, transfer £500 to TSB. Leave £250 in TSB for RSA, transfer £250 to BoS for an RSA. So minimum monthly pay-in and/or DDs already satisfied for HSBC, Lloyds, FD, Nationwide, Halifax and TSB, and also 8 X RSAs paid up for the month.
  • 1. NatWest Graduate Account
    2. NatWest Reward Account for the household bills cashback
    3. Barclays for the Blue Rewards offer until next year
    4. Halifax for the monthly rewards
    5. First Direct for salary
    6. First Direct for my own bills

I don't know how director remuneration at major banks is determined, but I'd imagine it was more related to profits than number of direct debits processed or amount of money flowing through accounts per month.

You're undoubtedly right but that's just an inconvenient fact that can apparently be ignored when it comes to a bit more banker bashing.

Shame there isn't an option for 42, which is, as we all know, the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything. 11+ just doesn't do it justice.

Hats off to anyone with that number (or more) of bank accounts.
