How Often Is ESA Assessed these days ?

  • 3 years max for time frame between ESA re-assessments is the DWP guidance, but in practice for many claimants that is bunkum.

Yes, there are many examples of folk being assessed within a period of 3 years from their first or last ESA award, but as said before in my area (SW) most folk I know (principally mental health sufferers) have not been re-assessed for at least 5 years, and one claimant I know has not been (re-) assessed for a period of almost 7 years.
  • I got a 3 year award in late 2013 with a 3 year prognosis/review date and i've not heard from them since. Fingers crossed i won't and i would rather not contact them to ask.

Are claimed in 2011 and was reassessed last year but I didn't know anything about it. I wasn't even sent an esa50 just a new award letter saying that I won't be reassessed until 2021

I've just received my ESA50 so it'll be 12 months for me. I'm still waiting for a tribunal date (26 weeks so far), I'll probably have my assessment date before the tribunal date.

That means any new decision will overrule a Tribunal decision.
    I know..... :(

I've just had a letter from them and my appeal was refused so I'm staying in the WRAG. I've now got to get my new ESA50 form filled out, it's already a week late but I did phone and let them know and they said get it to them when I could.

At the start of the tribunal the Dr on the panel asked why I hadn't applied for PIP, I explained it meant more forms, another assessment and I felt so knocked back by the whole thing that I didn't feel up to it. Again at the end she mentioned it and said I should apply, as did the clerk when he escorted me out of the room. So I think once this ESA assessment is done I might have to apply for PIP as I won't be able to live on my income.

Just thought I'd update in case anyone was interested or had any advice.

Do you claim for mental health and are the DWP aware of this? The reason i ask is that there's no extension of time to return the ESA50 form, it has to be returned by the date stated unless you claim for mental reasons and then the time for returning the form is more relaxed.

As your decision is the same from TS. Do you think DWP put a note on their system "claimant complainer" to put you down or reassessments early? I'm just asking because some sick people don't take their case to TS from MR, even they are sick?

You can't be placed into the Support Group unless you meet the criteria. They can re-assess you at anytime for ESA, which ever group you're in.

Thanks Poppy, I appreciate that. My question is do DWP look down, sending reassessments early, making a note of claimants on their systems who do take their case to TS for future?

I'm sorry but i still don't understand your question. DWP don't send re-assessments early, the health assessment providers send out the ESA50 forms and this can be done at anytime, regardless of the length of time DWP recommend.
