There is no fixed period for reassessment even in the Support Group. It shouldn't be more than 3 years between assessments but even that isn't definite.

They can re-assess you at anytime for ESA. Some wait 6 months and other 3 years. Some are assessed before the time they recommend and others go way over. That question is impossible to answer.

I went on ESA in February 2015 and got assessed in August and got put in support group, Centre for health and disability assessments sent me an ESA50 this year, 2018. Still waiting on an official decision even though a decision maker phoned me saying she would deal with it and everything would remain the same. This was 3 weeks ago, Not the 5 days promised.

And this has been ongoing since April! I really should complain as I suffer from anxiety and the uncertainty over those months has been bad..... And not good!

Sorry to hear that ! I too have anxiety and schizophrenia which is under control with meds.

I don't see why it varies from person to person, surely it should be set-in-stone for everyone

I've been cold turkey since last friday off all medications. All i've took is panadol extra, anadin extra, aspirin or ibuprofen for physical pains. Soon as the withdrawals subside im never touching an addictive drug again. But I need a better diagnosis. Hopefully my psychiatrist i see can give me a better medication for anxiety and mood swings.

Mental health is quite a difficult field to cover and decide on compared to more common physical problems which make people not able to work. Mental health seems extremely complex! And to be honest, People who work at DWP I actually can sympathise with them!

There is no fixed period but the gap between assessments cannot be less than 3 months.

Determining limited capability for work afresh
42290 Where It has been determined that a claimant
    1. has LCW or
    2. is treated as having LCW
    2.1 in certain conditions or
2.2 as a hospital patient or
2.3 due to receiving certain regular treatment or
    2.4 in exceptional circuumstances or
2.5 as a claimant who is not a qualifying young person and is receiving education in certain circumstances
the DM can determine afresh whether the claimant still has LCW.

    44291 DMG 44290 applies where
    1. the DM wishes to determine whether there has been a relevant change of circumstances in relation to the claimant’s physical or mental condition or
    2. the DM wishes to determine whether the previous determination was made in ignorance of, or based on a mistake as to some material fact or
    3. at least 3 months have passed since the date ofthe previous determination.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • My ESA support group came back this time after re-assessment stating that I would not be sent any more ESA50's to complete.

Thanks for the info guys. Just saw this on the DWP website " The DWP will usually re-assess your ability to work every 1, 2 or 3 years to make sure you’re still not fit to work. "

My last assessment was during the summer of 2018 so guessing it will probably be next summer

If you ring the ESA 0800 number, they will be able to tell you your review date, if you'd rather know for sure.

You can be re-assessed at any time but they usually stick to that date.

It can be as often as every 6 months because they can re-assess you at anytime for ESA.
