One more thing, if you are out of the UK half of the year, it may be better not using the monthly option and going for one of the others which may be cheaper in the long run, obviously after using the free trial first to see if it suits you. Suppose it depends on if you need it in UK too really. They do email you when you are on your free trial urging you to sign up as the offer won't last. Don't, as you will lose your free trial days, so better waiting until the last minute. I used Revolut card to pay to avoid bank charges as you can only pay in dollars.

We keep the internet connection, too much problem and hardly save anything if we stop and start for 6 months in UK and over here. (download speed is about 8Mbps in UK through cable and over 300Mbps with fibre and a wifi connection here.  iah except for updating programmes I notice very little difference between the two )

Just for info I use Nord VPN and am on a 3 year contract with them lasting another 18 months and was just looking around to see if there were better options when that contract ends.
