The free trial for 14 days ends after 14 days, and does not require you to sign up with a credit/debit card.
It's worth it to see if it works for you, and if you only need 14 days, for a short holiday, then it will be free. I took the 2 year option, as I don't live in the UK, which was the cheapest option for me at the time.1 -
If I sign up for that DNS thingy will it work on all my devices for the $4.90 per month total or do I have to sign up for each device. And will it work for my UK devices and my overseas devices for the $4.90 total per month. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0

1. Yes it will cover all your devices. I have 2 laptops, 2 phones, tablet and tv box all using it. Plus when I've had people staying, they've been able to use it too. I am not sure if there is a maximum amount of devices allowed.
2. Do you mean having two locations using smartDNS at one time? If that's the case, I am not sure and wouldn't think so, you'd have to ask customer support
You can set your router up so that it's set up for all devices, but my IP advised against this, for whatever reason.

Hi Slinga,Do you watch iPlayer through your desktop? If you do then the best/cheapest solution is buying a Raspberry Pi Zero W and then installing PIVPN on it. The Pi Zero W is £9.30 and uses about 7 watts an hour (around about £2 - £3 a year if on 24x7). Once it's installed then you install the OpenVPN client on your desktop. Once installed it creates an icon in your system tray which you right click on to "connect". Once connected, you are connected to your home network and therefore if you use iPlayer it goes to your house in the UK therefore the iPlayer thinks you're watching it from the UK. I've been using this for years whenever we go on holiday and my parents are currently in Tenerife and use it. You do need an upload speed of at least 10mbps from your UK home. Since I bought the Raspberry Pi Zero I never touch it - I just unplug it when I'm home and plug it back in when I'm going on holiday (you can check it's working while you're in the UK).2

Hi Slinga,No, as you thought it would need electricity and an internet connection.1
