Hi Dobbibill - that's a fair question. The reason I was hadn't applied to them in the first instance was my fear of being rejected and then having a negative mark on my history. Would they be able to "soft-assess" me without making an impression on my credit history?

I don't know whether they could 'soft assess' you to use your phrase but a quick chat costs nothing. If you were in a branch appointment you could have a 'chat' about several products so why not over the phone. It gives you another starting point to work with alongside the eligibility checker. Just a thought
