I appreciate the replies albeit the sarcastic ones.
What people are missing is that the union rep has said that this has happened previously 11 years ago!.
Doesn't that sound very dodgy and concerning?. It certainly does to me.

In my experience where I currently work I've seen at least 4 examples of 'altered' fit notes. All that says is there may be some staff who 'try it on'.
And the hr partner telling my nephew over the phone he can resign if he wants to before he even goes to the investigation meeting.

    Factually correct.
The hr partner who will be interviewing my nephew over the allegation was involved from start to finish in that dismissal too.
The hr partner was very surprised when the union rep mentioned it.
Something is very amiss here thats for sure.

Disciplinary matters are confidential....I'd be shocked too if a union rep was discussing other cases in detail with members. Are you trying to insinuate that the hr person is the one who altered the 'fit note'.

Yeah? And I'd be way past shocked if I thought that I could win a case of anything based on a half-arsed hair brained story from eleven years ago! Why on earth is anyone still believing a shred of this story? Or taking a single thing as the truth?

Because doctors regularly dole out sick notes without bothering to see the patient. Is this where your trolling starts to up the ante?

Depends on why you are off sick and the GP surgery.

After my benefits were stopped and while I was awaiting the benefit tribunal, my GP gave fit notes every 4 weeks for me without me ever having to see her.

Mind you she saw me about 8 other times through the year, and is also of the opinion that regardless of what the benefit office say, there is no way on this planet I can possibly work for the foreseeable future.
The way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.

    Who will we blame then?

No it doesn't. It shows what the doctor allegedly put on a fit note. It does not prove that note wasn't altered and submitted in the altered form. It doesn't for one minute prove that the probably fictional nephew hasn't submitted an unaltered fit note.

No, yoiu're right. There's a missing word in my previous comment which should have said ' your nephew's GP provided the note..."

But if what the GP confirms they sent was the same as the note that HR received, then it would show that the note wasn't altered.

If it shows that a valid fit note was issued for all the period the employee was off, then it wouldn't prove that the OP's nephew didn't alter it, but would suggest that he had no motive to change it , which would be relevant to a person who was alleging that they had been framed.

Of course, someone who had altered a fit note would be reluctant to make the request, so if an employee in this situation did propose it, they may well be seen as more credible.

Of course, if the story is fictional then none of it matters.

In that case the Doctor would know that they aren't to ever amend a fit note date. They are to tear up the incorrect note and write a new one. There are strict rules on any errors or changes to fit notes for exactly this reason.
  • The investigation meeting went ahead this morning.
My nephew was shown a copy of the note by the HR partner. Nephew confirmed that the note looked much different to when he received and posted it.
The hr partner asked my nephew was he saying it was someone else who had altered it.
Yes was the reply and the hr partner said a full investigation will have to be conducted which might take a long time.
In the mean time my nephew will remain suspended on full pay from today.
He does not have to provide any more sick notes to his employer.
The union rep went into the hr partners office with the union rep before the meeting commenced, my nephew was asked to wait outside.
The union rep has said it is 50/50.
  • Ooops sorry I meant to say the union rep went in to the office with the HR partner.
