Nephew suspended from work advice welcome

  • Hi. I worked in social security offices for many years. Sick notes were often altered. If there was any doubt, a quick call to the GP would confirm this. HR/Payroll will see lots of sick notes and probably do the same call to clarify.

I am sure your nephew will be fine and the GP will confirm what was written.

The GP says he will write a letter saying he would have issued another note to my nephew has he was aware of my nephews depression due to circumstances at his place of work.

The fact that you say that the GP 'would have issued' another note suggests that your nephew may not have submtted a note for the most recent period he was off - is this the case ?

18 years ago my daughter married someone 13 years her senior after they had courted for 3 years. I never wanted this I should have picked her life partner. since then I haven't allowed her to see my son (her brother) only now and again when I think she should. I kept her away from my wife ( her mother) has I didn't want my daughter corrupting my wife or son. When my wife died 3 years ago my daughter had been kept away for over two years. I allowed her to visit the chapel of rest with me there only and attend the funeral. I hate her and her husband. They own a nice house and car and both work in decent jobs. Im 66 now and she should look after me and give up work and her husband. Even if she did she wouldn't get anything left to her on my death. I have also told my son who I have forced to give up work and stay at home if he doesn't care for me in old age im leaving my money and property to charity. My daughter has corrupted me and my son by defying me. I wish they would get caught up in a terrorist attack or a plane crash. Why do people I tell this to think im wrong?.

    This is you, isn't it?

Astonishing anyone in your family talks to you, never mind tells you about their problems at work.

    Where did you find that?
  • When my nephew sent the note in the post it was in the condition when he received it from his GP.
The gp did not alter it and neither did my nephew.
Why the hell would my nephew trace over his own doctors writing including the dates with another colour ink?.
This would be obvious to anyone but a blind person.
Next week is a investigation meeting and the union rep is convinced it will quickly proceed to a disaplinary hearing.
Like I mentioned earlier this has happened before according to the rep.

Did your nephew happen to be off without producing another sick note for the period covered by the altered date on the submitted sick note?

Saying "The Dr would have issued one" almost tells me he didn't go and get one in time, but if the Dr would have done then why not … Green pen anyone?

I presume such a large employer has a bullying policy, grievance procedure etc? Just going off sick rarely solves anything. The problem is still there when you go back.

Ask your nephew DID HE DO IT?

    Love the thread btw.

So, the doctor gave it to your nephew, he posted it direct to HR, not via his line manager, and they handed it to Payroll?

Did the sick note, as apparently altered, cover longer than the regular 2 weeks period?

Finally, did the doctor complete the sick note in your nephew's presence? There's no possibility the doctor himself altered the date?

Links on the OPs thread about psychics. Possibly a ghost writer....
  • The doctors note covered my nephew until this coming Monday (8th October).
He was due to call at the practice to collect another note on Monday from reception.
He did not need to see the doctor every time he got another note.
He just telephoned the practice and collected the note 3 days later.
  • Oh forgot to say. no the doctor did not write the note in my nephews presence.
The doctor only did that with the first note issued.
My nephew was told any further sick notes did not require him to actually see the doctor in person.
