  • ooh one bit of good news: my Quidc0 cashback for switching to Tonik when we moved in in MArch was just confirmed, 3 days before my switch away from them  So I have £40 of compensation (of a kind) for the stress they've caused us!

Good news about the cash back, but my highlight from your list was the pretzel run!

Thanks for the reminder about the regular saver - have just opened my next one (matured yesterday but all the money disappeared in the app for the day!!). 2.75% is good, but it’s no 5%!

I agree with themadvix, the pretzel run was the most critical item of your work.

How do you re-waterproof a coat?
  • @themadvix @killerpeaty  yep, agree! I spent my gap year and Germany and basically got addicted to German bakery goods. I've never in the UK (even at German bakery stalls) quite ever had that taste again but Lidl comes pretty close (for the sake of science, I got pretzels again today as part of the food shop...)

KP: there's a wash-in re-waterproofer you can get (I use the Nikwax one) so it's really simple, just put the liquid in the detergent drawer and run a 30' cyle :)

  • Whoop! Made £70 on FB sales today getting rid of things that need to be shifted ahead of the internal renovation work. The furniture was things I'd bought off FB before as I knew I'd need stopgap solutions and decent basic 1Kea-type stuff seems to hold its value pretty well. New City is also a good place for this as there's always a mobile population and people needing and selling bits and pieces. Plus everyone collecting has been so much nicer compared to Old Town (and worn masks too)

Electricity and gas supplier switch goes through tomorrow, yay! I'll be on the phone straightaway to get the meter move sorted. OH & I did a major push on getting the downstairs ready yesterday as a way of helping her feel less overwhelmed by the scale of the work. We emptied the dining room out into the garden and reallocated stuff to various places (hence the FB sales) then pulled up the manky carpet (*the* cheapest felt-backed office carpet glued down with no underlay). Looks like the original tiles but they're a total mess and not salvagable, even if we wanted to. OH has decided we're going big next weekend and ripping up the hall, stairs and landing carpet (in the hope there are lovely wooden stairs we can buff up).

German bread and pastries are like no other - I miss Germany! We were going to go this year for the markets, but that's not going to happen. We've recently discovered that the bakery near us that is on TGTG sells very good pretzels - we got one in our bag (unfortunately everyone seems to have cottoned on to TGTG round here and getting a bag from there is now nigh on impossible!).

I'd second Nikwax - and very good environmentally too.

Great going on the FB sales and the carpet ripping up etc.! It's good to feel progress is being made!

I agree Vix! I had a conference in Berlin in August which of course got postponed. Seeing favourite people from around the world in a favourite city would've been amazing but something to look forward to next summer?!
