@themadvix It's 2kwh, so just over half what a typical 3-bed semi would need, power-wise. We're quite a frugal house anyway in terms of energy use but it'll definitely be worth it. As the garden room is an almost flat roof, it's also easier to install than on a pitched house roof. On the frother, yes, I know
We wanted the cold/hot frother which did add a few quid. It's arriving tomorrow and frankly can't come soon enough after 2 days on tea only
@killerpeaty amazed could go a few waysso I'm hoping in a good way
We're off to see Sasha Velour. Very excited! She's not in DD's top 10 but is mine and OH's favourite - the thinking woman's queen!

A quiet day, really focused work-wise (well, apart from a 2-episode Gilmore Girls break on the sofa with DD and OH over lunch!) Got a bonus on one of my Pr0lific surveys - anyone had that before? Anyway, in addition to my recent £5.83 payout, I have a £6.40 one coming my way on Friday, yay! Both go in the OP pot.
First coat of paint went in the garden room today and the self-levelling compound on the floor. Flooring and bathroom are being started tomorrow. We're all dreading the start of the internal renovation though and we're not really sure how we'll manage the disruption. But one foot in front of the other for now...Choose kind4 -

Hope the renovations go smoothly and there is not tooooooo much disruption3 -
Thanks Hazelnutty - £2k for a kit is **much** less than I thought they were, thats amazing. I'm also an extremely frugal household
but even so, 3 years maybe ... installation costs, sure. It could definitely be done.
Self levelling compound is a good start - but as you say, the internal bits are still to come. Hope it all goes really smooohtly.2023: the year I get to buy a car2 -
@Hazelnutty
The garden room sounds like it going to be fab and I should think it will be so nice to have that as an extra social space!Renovation mmm well all I can say is I have found the “devil to be in the renovations”! The whole process seems to be so full of stress but then the outcome will be the best and house will be fab! But mmm the upheaval!Good luck

@karmacat & @Sistergold thanks for your comments
I did check out the green deal thing that @themadvix mentioned (I think it was her...) and solar panels are one of the primary installations you can get support for. I'm going to see if we're eligible. The flooring arrived today so that's gone down and it's finally looking like a building rather than a massive shed! Shower tray and screen also arrived and will go in tomorrow when the plumber's in. You're right SG to focus on the outcome. Sometimes I'm feeling pretty zen and it'll happen when it happens then other times I'm like blue screamy face emoji IT'S GOING TO BE A NIGHTMARE! OH picked up a very tasty Magic Bag today with 4 pear and raspberry danishes in so it's all good atm!

You can take amazed whichever way you want! (Although please take it as a good thing!) I love Sasha, she's got the best head contouring ever.
The renovations might be a nightmare, but will be worth it in the end.4 -
Oooh, pear and raspberry danishes sound amazing!
Thanks for the info on the solar panels - that gives me a good rough idea of costs. The renovations sound like their going well - it *will* all be over at some point!

@killerpeaty
Thanks!
@themadvix I know that it'll be worth it in the end it's just had to see that end at the moment. We've been living in low-level chaos since we moved in in March and it just gets me down every now and then. We've also had some issues with the team - first the plasterer went AWOL, this week the plumber just didn't turn up, then the main guy gets a text from him saying he's in a COVID-testing queueAnyway, we'll get there!
Today was a day the chaos was getting to me so I've been making lists of jobs and racing around. I've:
* Touched up the paintwork in 2 upstairs rooms
* Re-waterproofed our walking jackets
* Done the final load of washing
* Swept the upstairs floors
* Done a croissant and pretzel run
* Sorted out the maturity instuctions for my regular saver (oh for those rates again!)
* Listed a bookcase on FB
* Put stuff in loft and got down the bathroom cabinet (going into the garden room) and shoes for downstairs (I have an embarrasingly large Converse collection and they get rotated, along with seasonal shoes)
DD then came into the loft and 'shopped' for clothes and bags in the storage boxes 'oh all this vintage stuff is so in fashion!' So OH and I are officially 'vintage'But at least we've graduated from being just embarrasingly lame and clueless...
