  • Thanks, PP, Newgirly, Karma!

NG - OH hates spiders so was absent from about 3 minutes in! I think it's great how overtly political this series is. The Rosa Parks episode with the white supremacist trying to change history. That packed a punch. We're loving the new Doctor and companions :) Thanks for the encouragement on the OPs. You're right, it will make a massive difference to be MF. I'm determined to keep OPing even if it's a few quid here and there.

PP - my grandma (no longer with us) used to take me to the London museums and I used to insist she come on the earthquake simulator with me! (Was that natural history museum??)

Karma - I love museums and they're connected to my job so it's a good excuse for a nose around on company time so to speak. DD is off on a museum trip for school today and was bouncing off the walls with excitement (they're doing Ancient Egypt in school atm). I hope she doesn't let the cool popular girls embarrass her out of her enthusiasm - she's so desperate to be 'in' that she does tend to set aside her own interests to conform with theirs.

Hmmm peer pressure that's a hard one to combat as a parent. All you can do is hope you've instilled enough confidence in themselves it survives in some remote corner of their psyche and comes out when it needs to. Sometimes though I think peer pressure can have a positive influence on our children as it can help them grow, encourages them to develop their own interests away from home and become their own person. However I do appreciate that it is a double edge sword and peer pressure can have a negative effect as well. Hope she has a fab day. I love museums too.

    Hi Hazelnutty,

Sounds like you had a well deserved treat this weekend. I love my converse too, what type did you get?

I haven't managed to watch any of the new Dr Who yet, DD1 is very impressed with the new doctor and the series so far. Hopefully one day I'll manage to catch up :o

As others have said, don't feel down about making small over payments, £1200 a year is a good amount, and many people would just see that as money to spend, what ever you mange to OP will make a difference. Our OP amount has been very up and down over the years, anything is better than nothing!

Hope DD has enjoyed her trip to the museum

  • Hi all

Just come off two long days in London when I've been too knackered to post!

Got my first annual mortgage statement as sole owner today. As of the end of September (so before the extra OPs I've been making) the balance is £154,263.34 (initially I borrowed £159,000, remaining term 24 years 1 month). I'm guessing that the figures in the 'debit' column are for interest? It is quite nice to see those coming down by a few pence each month.

A few FB sales so far this month (since payday on 26th): £45  I'm currently stashing this rather than OPing with Christmas on the horizon and a few things I want to get done on the house. The storage room is still depressingly full after DD's recent decluttering. I am going to start charity shopping soon though as I'm getting sick of it!

We still have a freezer full of OH's batch cooking so shouldn't need a big shop for at least a week. Essential cheese-buying tonight for JPs though along with carrots and onions for the next soupmaking exercise.

I did my extra job yesterday and have put in my claim today so I should see about £300 at the end of the month (or latest next month) along with my expenses. I like to get expenses claims in quick or it messes up my calculations! When that comes in I'll top up my guilt-free splurge pot, treat the family to something and stash the rest.

Hi Crumpets - I go some grey suede ones with round metal studs on. My 'uniform' is black, grey and blue so these will be a funky addition.

Cheese! You gotta have cheese :) though I'm not sure why you're buying it for the local Justices of the Peace :p

Congratulations on that first mortgage statement :j

  • Cheese is one of my absolutely favourite things! You're right, why should the JPs have all the fun? I'll save it for the jacket potatoes instead :p

  • Hi all

Feeling rather sorry for myself today - finally succumbed to the cold that's been brewing for weeks. OH and DD both had it way back but I'd staved it off with First Defence. Hit me like a train Friday morning and I got nothing done. Luckily DD is with her dad this weekend as I'm not too fun to be around when I'm ill. OH has just left for the store to get a bag of lemons for hot honey and lemon so am feeling very much looked after :)

I got out a few boxes of random electrical bits for XH to help me sort through. Turned up a video camera with an SD card in full of videos of DD from 12 days old! :A Just lovely! Plus some serious museum pieces of old phones.

So just a quiet day today. OH made lovely yellow split pea and bacon soup yesterday in latest batch cook so that's for lunch. Might photograph some of DD's discarded Playmobil for sale later but that's about it on the MSE front.

    Happy Saturday!
