I would say these day, if you are using Windows 10, they comes with a pretty good Anti-Virus from Microsoft itself. My experience is that, it does the job quite well. Most importantly, unlike other Anti-Virus in the market, Windows Defender doesn't slow down your computer.
If you really insist an extra Anti-Virus for peace of mind, I would recommend try out Avira at no cost. If you're happy with their product, you may consider to pay for it. Avira is from Germany, and I have certain confident level on Germany's engineering product0 -

The ones who do pay, all pay equal.
But not everybody pays - MS do not pay
