People who break the speed limit should not be able to get out of it by something like this, it is ridiculous.

I hope if he gets caught speeding again he pays the price.

If the man/woman in the street is meant to follow the rules laid down for him/her then surely the authorities should be expected to do the same.

I do agree; but there is a forum section on here that deals with getting off motoring offences.
If I was served papers too late, I would be looking on that forum for advice.

Is there? I've not seen it.

Why should there be a time limit on something like this? There is not on many other crimes.

Yes I have seen the parking ones but not to get off speeding, which is a completely different kettle of fish.

No idea, you'll need to ask those who framed the legislation. But thinking about it I expect it is so the keeper has a reasonable chance of remembering who was driving the vehicle at the time of the alleged offence.

Plus, if you want to deter speeding then it's better to inform the alleged offender within a short, set period of time so they can take suitable action to kerb their speeding.

There is a time limit on some crimes, depending on how serious they are.

Statutes of limitations are laws passed by legislative bodies in common law systems to set the maximum time after an event within which legal proceedings may be initiated.

He is entitled to use the law to fight his case and in this instance the law was on his side,it's the silly self satisfied grin he was pictured in the papers wearing that's more annoying, like a mosquito on your arm,you really want to give it a slap..:p:p

That's probably an old library shot that the media pulled out precisely because he did look to be smirking.

the media seem to be obsessed with the story that DB has "got off" a speeding charge, rather than the less interesting to them

"Police unable to convict speeder as they couldn't send out a simple letter on time"
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

    You mean summary only offences.

We don't know when they sent the letter so an even less interesting story would be it failed to arrive on time.
