I Don't See I To I With ICICI

LittleMissMoney - ditto.
Meanwhile......back at the ranch. A month later and these idiots are still sending me e-mails with my personal details on them. I have replied in bold capitals. I've threatened them with the FSA and Data Protection but still they persist. Next step a letter to the Chairman.
I don't know where the circus is but I know where the clowns are?

I've had excellent service from them so far. Replys to my emails within a couple of days most of the time, and issues resolved just as quickly. The application process is as lon-winded as you make it. What they ask for are documents notorised by bank officals, accountants, etc. If that's difficult (and it was for me) you can just walk into a branch and have them stamp the docs themselves. worked for me. but if a branch is too far then try getting your own bank to sign them. Eitherway, the process has been worth it for me.

There definitely seems to be two camps with icici. I had similar experiences to other posters were, quite honestly, I had forgotten that I had started the application, then a couple of weeks later i sent them an email asking what had happened (and forgot again). They then sent me an email asking for additional information which I sent them followed a few weeks later with a follow up email asking what is going on .. I have had no response.
I thoought 'sod-that-for-a-game-of-darts' and opened up an account with Sainsbury's who did not even require additional id.
Even more oddly nationwide, with whom I have been a customer for years sent me letters asking for my id ... I phoned and explained that they have my id because I have 7 different accounts with them including my mortgage. The CS girl said that they would have to stop processing my IsA 'top-up' if I did not provide the id ... I asked her if i did not supply id would they also stop taking my mortgage payment ... apparently it does not work that way
why is it some banks need id and others seem to be able to verify id electronically?
ivanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
It seems to me the UK banking market is 'confused' at what it needs to comply with the money laundering regs. In my experience Barclays has been ludicrous in the extreme in this regard. I've now had to supply id to them on no less than 4 separate occassions. Once when I opened an ISA - fair dos - then their Barclays Stockbrokers arm requested ID for a Self Select PEP I've had with them for years and years (inherited from Schwab); but they not only needed one set of authenticated id but TWO - one for the share account and a separate one for the linked cash account. And then they requested the same info a few months later from all the members of a very long standing investment club I belong to, even for those of us who already had personal accounts with them!! Crazy.
I had problems with ICICI first time I tried to open an account with them. Gave up and went to IceSave. More recently I tried again, and this time much smoother and all done online with no need to submit any documentation.
I just hope all the stuff I've now read about people having problems even after opening the account doesn't come back to burn me.0 -

Nice answer. I also have loads of accounts with them and have been a customer for years. If they ever try asking me for ID I will probably hit the roof and tell them I shall withold my mortgage payments until they sort themselves out. I feel the rage bubbling up now!!!0 -
I can't see how this can all be money laundering regulations as some savings accounts I have had authorised by them checking the electoral role and I've had to supply no extra ID whereas in others I have had to supply ID again within the space of a week having only just opened a current account AND been told I need to be credit checked AGAIN (having been credit checked once for a current account even when requesting no overdraft facility) to then open the SAVINGS account!

Well, the problem is that some banks can verify people's identities online while others can't. Many of the ones that can do so seem to perform random checks on some people by asking for ID in addition to the online checks.I can't see how this can all be money laundering regulations as some savings accounts I have had authorised by them checking the electoral role and I've had to supply no extra ID whereas in others I have had to supply ID again within the space of a week having only just opened a current account AND been told I need to be credit checked AGAIN (having been credit checked once for a current account even when requesting no overdraft facility) to then open the SAVINGS account!

As far as being credit searched to open a current account - an authorised overdraft is just one of the forms of credit a bank can give you. Any bank account that has charges for any of it's account services can end up overdrawn because of those charges. That's why a credit search is needed.
You shouldn't have been credit searched when opening a savings account, however. I suspect the search was actually an unrecorded identity verification and not a credit search at all. If that's the case, it's of no consequence to you and entirely the bank's perogative. Asking for ID that they already have on file, and which is still valid, is pretty stupid, though.0 -
Thanks I take your point about the charges potentially putting you overdrawn and thats why a credit check was needed. I hadn't thought of that that but had thought the check for the current account was par for the course anyway.
I'm surprised that not all banks can verify identity on line - this would seem to make life much simpler and secure. I do feel a bit concerned putting all personal details on appplication forms plus proof of identity in the post sometimes. If post ever does get intercepted this would seem a bit of a bonanza for identity theft.
The credit check for the savings account is / was part of a much longer grumble which I won't bore you with. It was a hard footprint credit search not an soft footprint and would have affected my credit rating according to Experian. The bank put in writing that credit check was needed for a savings account (although I suspect the person who did this was covering up for anothers mistake) - however in the end they removed the excess searches from my credit record.0 -
These guys get worse...
I emailed them to complain (see my earlier posts) and I received an email saying they would investigate and write to me within 4 weeks. Well, 4 weeks has now come and gone and I've received nowt :wall: :wall: Also, the email was addressed to Mr (I'm female ).
I really don't think Martin should be promoting these muppets, if my experience is anything to go by.
Proud to be a MoneySaver!

Bumbling idiots. They can stick their extra few percent wherever they wish.
Day one. "Thank you for your application to open an account. All your details are satisfactory. Confirmation will be sent to you in two days time."
Long yawn, hurry up e-mail and 8 days later.
"Thank you for your e-mail The matter is being attended to and you will hear from us in two days time."
I decide to send then an e-mail cancelling my application because they obviously work to a different calendar than mine - Hindi?
Two days later another e-mail from them.
"We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
We confirm that we have successfully received your
on-line application form. However, your
application is under Manual KYC processing.
We request you to reconsider your decision of
canceling your application and continue to be a part
of the ICICI Bank family."
Now why would anybody with brains want to trust their money with a bunch of bozos like ICICI?
It's a good job they are regulated by the FSA for those who have money with them.
Idiots!
